No One Likes Getting Lost!

There's nothing I hate more than not knowing where I am. Unfortunately, I have a terrible sense of direction, so I find myself in uncomfortable situations more than I care to.

But this usually never happens when I write. Nine times out of ten, when I put together a document, I know exactly what's coming next and where the whole thing is going.

This is because I learned how to write an outline for every document I produce. Outlining my thoughts and laying out a presentation before I start putting it together allows me to keep track of each element and so I can "install" it where it belongs in my train of thought.

Not only does this practice help me, but it also helps my readers to follow along and come off with the ideas my arguments intend.

I hope to add some really great resources for writing effective outlines here so whether you're in business, school, or hope to venture out as a journalist or novel writer, you can get all the information you need right here.

Going With the Flow

do you get my drift?

Any presentation should have a natural flow that takes your audience from beginning to end. When you know how to write an outline, you create that flow by listing your argument out in ascending order to its logical conclusion.

Then, whether you're writing it out for an article, book report, thesis, or novel, you can keep the flow going smoothly by following the points in your outline.

Public Speakers Definitely Need to Know How to Write an Outline!

Isn't it annoying when you're listening to a public speaker and he has his head down reading off a page rather than engaging his audience?

It really is an indication that he's completely unprepared and perhaps even unfamiliar with his material.

When a speaker uses an outline, he can spend most of his time looking directly at his audience, with only an occasional glance at his outline to keep track of where he is in his discourse.

It's good for bolstering his credibility as someone who knows the facts, and its good for the audience who are personally addressed by the person they're listening to.
