Recommended for smaller operations that print between 250 and 2,000 pages per month, the HP LaserJet M1522 has a monthly duty cycle of 8,000 pages. The HP LaserJet M1522 prints documents with 600 dpi x 600 dpi resolution at up to 24 pages per minute, with a first print out time of 9.5 seconds. Built-in networking also comes standard on the unit. The printer uses HP 36A (CB436A) toner cartridges which helps to produce crisp text and images, and yields up to 1,500 pages. A high-yield option is also available that yields up to 2,000 pages.

The printer's standard media capacity of 250 sheets is not very large compared to similar printers on the market. Although the media capacity can be expanded up to 310 sheets with the addition of more paper trays, that maximum media capacity is still much lower than comparable printers. While the printer's media capacity is a little low, it can still support a variety of media types and sizes, including plain paper, transparencies, cardstock, labels and envelopes, ranging from a minimum custom size of 3 in. x 5 in., all the way to the maximum custom size of 8.5 in. x 14 in. The printer's 64 MB of memory is also not very large. Unfortunately this feature cannot be expanded.

The HP LaserJet M1522 enables you to scan, fax and copy up to 50 pages at a time. The scanner's optical resolution of 1,200 dpi x 1,200 dpi, and interpolated resolution of 19,200 dpi x 19,200 dpi means your scanned images will appear crystal clear. The fax machine features 119 broadcast transmission stations to ensure that your faxes can be transmitted to recipients regardless of the location. The fax machine has a resolution of 300 dpi x 300 dpi, and quickly transmits documents at a speed of 33.6 Kbps. It also comes standard with additional features, such as fax forwarding and Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection. The copy machine can copy up to 24 pages per minute with a decent resolution of 600 dpi x 600 dpi. The copier also enables you to increase document size by up to 400%, as well as decrease size to as little as 25% of the original size.

Although some of the HP LaserJet M1522's printing features either cannot be expanded, or cannot be expanded by much, the additional multifunctional features of a fax machine, copier and scanner make this printer a good option for offices that need access to a lot of office functions, while saving space and money at the same time. The HP LaserJet M1522 is also Energy Star qualified, which means you will also substantially reduce energy use and save money over the life off the printer.
