HP has decided to go with Microsoft Windows for this offering. The Slate 500 rates 4 out of 5 stars and look for the Slate 2 coming soon. Pluses include Flash compatibility, which the iPad doesn't have. Since HP is famous for producing solid printers, it just seems natural that they give you the capability to connect with their wireless printers. And they do exactly that. Microsoft Office also works reasonably well on this tablet. Reviewers did note that they had to make some tweaks on the Slate to get Skype to recognize the camera, but once it did, it did fine. One reviewer noticed that you have to be gentle while using the stylus or it will scratch your screen or become bent. Overall, this is a good tablet for a professional on the go.

The HP TouchPad rates 4 out of 5 stars in 641 product reviews, which isn't bad for a first-generation tablet. A lot of the critical reviews noted that you might want to go with the Slate instead, but this version did all right for being a brand-new gadget.
If you are eyeballing this one because of price, you should note that HP has discontinued support due to weak sales and slashed prices to get rid of excess inventory.
