Think You'd Try Tabs?

From the lens HTML Tab Menu.

I know it looks a bit complex, but it's really just laying images next to each other and hyperlinking each image to a module. Think you'd give them a shot on a future lens?

(Generally I've never been a fan of the color orange but this orange and blue theme is starting to grow on me...)

If I'm not on Squidoo, I'm on my blog, Desert Pond, trying to figure out how to add an image to a post. :)

Credit for the great tab images goes to GR Sites.

I've thought for a long time that there needs to be better ways to make a lens look more like web pages that people spend most of their time on. Thanks. Looks like the rest of my weekend will be spent on this, lol.

I have some multipage lenses that use Squidoo's top of page tabs. I might try a test lens to assist with long lens-single page navigation or to push traffic to specific module blocks. Interesting lens, and well done tutorial. Love to have you add this to the HTML or CSS plexo on Squidoo Tech Stew.
  • heehaw Apr 26, 2011 @ 9:05 pm | delete
i did not know that we could add tab like that on squidoo.

  • guardianstar77 Mar 5, 2011 @ 11:21 am | delete
Beautiful idea; excellent presentation. I am hesitant about trying this 1) because my CSS / HTML skills are not that great, 2) because I worry about the potential for increasing the page load time since Google is now using that as a factor in page rank, and 3) because I have "mysteriously" had images disappear from my photo storage site. (I use Photobucket's baby brother called TinyPic.) I recently updated 11 lenses that all use the exact same picture in the ToC, only to find that the image had been deleted. The page load factor is also more important as more and more people are viewing the web on hand-held devices with wireless connections. Appreciate your hard work on this!

this looks like an incredible idea.
  • artyfax Feb 25, 2011 @ 7:48 am | delete
looks interesting I will be thinking about trying this out in my next lens. I do have some quite long lenses and am tempted to "nest" one main set of tabs and a second level with more detailed links. Don't know if that would be over the top?

  • Sojourn Apr 19, 2009 @ 8:59 am | in reply to spirituality | delete
Spirituality, I use Stat Counter. I think I got that tip from ThomasC. It's free and easy. It gives you just a little more than the dashboard stats but it also shows when search engines have crawled your lens. I'll put this info in the lens for future reference.

And thanks so much for the blessing!

  • spirituality Apr 19, 2009 @ 2:16 am | delete
I don't know - I have a totally different question though: How do you see how long people spend on your lens?

But this is a great lens - blessed by a squidangel.
  • Apr 19, 2009 @ 1:49 am | delete
Agree with Sojourn. Tab menus don't work with all types of lenses, but when they DO work, they certainly add value to the page/lens. Thanks for sharing...
