Hello, I'm getting random bold text that I did not input every time I update or edit. I cannot find and stray bold or strong tags and have cannot figure this out. Please help!
  • Trekkiemelissa Feb 26, 2010 @ 12:19 am | delete
See if there is a < b > . This should be together but in case of the html not showing up right here i made it farther so you get my answer. Make sure that is not there.
  • vlad-sarlat Feb 26, 2010 @ 1:08 pm | delete
I just cannot find any code in any of my modules that have that tag! It was suggested that it may have been from one of my Amazon modules but when I look in there, again, I see no html at all. So how do I find this tag if when I go into edit mode in each module, there is no html other than the hyperlinks I added?
  • Trekkiemelissa Feb 26, 2010 @ 3:57 pm | delete
Is it on the only lens you have on your account? If So, I am going to take a look and see if I can find where it went wrong.
  • Trekkiemelissa Feb 26, 2010 @ 4:08 pm | delete
If it is and I think it is, I can't find the problem in the code. Everything looks right. I suggest to file a bug report on this one and see if they can fix it. Also double check your amazon module before doing that though. On where the products are double check you don't have any bold html codes in that section before you do that.
  • vlad-sarlat Feb 26, 2010 @ 4:37 pm | delete
Thanks Melissa. I appreciate your help.I went back one last time to look at each of the Amazon modules. There is absolutely no code in any of the editors for the Amazon modules. I'm going to go ahead and submit a bug report and cross my fingers someone can help me fix this. You are awesome and I will definitely give 5 stars for your dedication and responsiveness. Thanks again!

Hi, I can't seem to get my hyperlink to work. I am pretty sure that I have used the correct code, but it still won't work. What should I do?
  • Trekkiemelissa Feb 17, 2010 @ 12:35 pm | delete
Make sure the link is actually correct. Make sure you did not miss a (") in the code. I little miss and it won't work.

    Hey Melissa,

I'm doing the 30 day challenge, and I tried making my first post in squidoo, and creating an html link, but the link that I typed in is not the link that shows up when the post is published

    Here is my page: http://www.squidoo.com/strengthandconditioningtraining

When you click the links, they are supposed to go to www.strength-and-conditioning.net

    Things I've already tried:

    - entered the HTML code by hand instead of copy and pasting
    - cleared cache and cookies

Neither one of those worked. Do you have any suggestions?
  • Trekkiemelissa Dec 21, 2009 @ 9:45 pm | delete
You need to put http:// in front of you links.
  • kligor Dec 22, 2009 @ 6:37 am | delete
such a simple solution! Thanks, Melissa

    Hi,

I'm new in Squidoo. How do I add HTML and CSS code to my lens? Is there a module I have to add first? Or, where do I insert the codes?

    Regards,
    Butch
  • Trekkiemelissa Dec 10, 2009 @ 9:20 am | delete
You just put it in the box. Typically right in front of the text and the closing tag after the text.

Thanks for the great info. I have already utilized them. Have a look http://www.squidoo.com/MaryLand-Crabs
Something that I do and others can do it too. If you see alense that has a feature you like in regards to creating interesting stuff in modules, view the source code of the page and then scroll down to the particular article or module ans see how it was done. Most times you can figure it out. Then you can play with modifying it to suit your lens.

  • Trekkiemelissa Aug 6, 2009 @ 10:57 am | in reply to golfgurugps | delete
If you don't upload anything, nothing will show up. I don't use the upload box for all of the modules. Intro module is the most important one though.
  • golfgurugps Aug 6, 2009 @ 9:29 am | in reply to Trekkiemelissa | delete
Yes thanks I did read about that and my image is hosted on flickr.
I was able to make my image clickable, I just wasn't able to do it when I use the upload box.
So if I don't upload anything to the box it won't (the box) show up on the page is that correct? By the way thank you very much for the help!
  • Trekkiemelissa Aug 5, 2009 @ 8:32 pm | in reply to golfgurugps | delete
In order to make an image clicable online, you need a place other than squidoo to host the image like photobucket.

so you put url of site you going to with the a href code, you would put the image url with code with img src tag and then end it with the /a tag.

If you don't upload anything, nothing will show up
  • golfgurugps Aug 5, 2009 @ 7:15 pm | in reply to Trekkiemelissa | delete
Well as you can tell this is my first lens. I entered my code for the image and link in the text area so that it will be clickable.

The box at the bottom of the of the text area where you can upload an image from your computer, will it still show up (empty because I didn't use it) next to my headline text?
  • Trekkiemelissa Aug 5, 2009 @ 11:11 am | in reply to golfgurugps | delete
what do you mean by My question is will the box that houses (no image yet) the image disappear when the lens is published?
  • golfgurugps Aug 5, 2009 @ 11:07 am | delete
I have followed the instructions on adding links and images to the text area and it worked. My question is will the box that houses (no image yet) the image disappear when the lens is published?

    Hi Melissa,
This probably sounds dumb but I have just saved my first lens ( and web publication) ever but have not published yet as I cannot add 'live/working' links to the article.
I have read your 'codes' as above but they dont mean anything to me, as a complete novice - I have no idea what to do with them.
    Help, Please, if you can!

you would have to do your text here I used navy here as a starting point.
  • Brid May 4, 2009 @ 1:08 am | delete
Mmmm... I did try the code for text in color and looking around elsewhere, I found different codes. None work for me.

With the , if after the word(s) we want in color we put , it cut the sentence into a new paragraph. So, I would say this would be good for something like a sub-title inside the text.

For coloring a word inside a sentence, I opted for . As I write here, I don't even remember (as I have played with this and search for days...) if after the word I have put or .

I can just suggest - you newbie, like me - to try and see which one works.

Thank you for making this lens! There are so many newbies that are afraid of HTML because they think it's hard. It's not! You've made it easy here, especially. Great work, and congratulations on making Squid Angel and Citizen Squid!

Take your time and learn it. It takes time to learn html and css but if you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message.

Thanks from a newbie struggling with HTML for this helpful lens. I think CSS is WAY advanced for me yet; I just need to get basic html down :). Took me an entire day to add some extra pix in a new module this week and place the pix where I wanted them, THEN get the text to flow around the pix. After much, much trial & error, I finally got it pretty much the way I wanted. It proved to be a good learning experience. Hopefully this will all become 'second nature' as I progress in my Squidoo journey. A 5* thank you. Now off to read other mentoring lenses~
  • Cajean Mar 27, 2009 @ 7:07 pm | delete
So much to learn and so little time, but you've kindly put lots in one place. Thanks for your plain explanation too. 5* and my faves. :-)

Though I know HTML, my knowledge is pretty limited to the basics. This tutorial is great, cause it offers me a step-by-step understanding of some coding. I really appreciate it, and can't wait to start playing with my Squidoo pages! Thanks!

I'd stay with one of the defaults as not everyone has all of the same fonts. The other way you can do it and its through a graphics.
  • Aquavel Mar 17, 2009 @ 9:35 am | delete
What fonts can I use on my lenses besides Helvetica, Georgia, Palatino, & Comic sans ms? I'm actually looking for one decorative font I can use as a header on an art lens. Thanks!

This is SO helpful and easy to understand. Plus the lay out is beautiful 5*s! (BTW, when I go to look at your 70 lenses, there is nothing showing! ~Perhaps it's my computer. I'm using a Mac. You might check it out though, just in case it's a bug.)

Mmmm...rounded corners! I just tested it on my Best Sellers lens and it looks great. It goes so well with the Amazon buttons. I looked at it in IE and saw no rounded corners, which I expected, but it just looked like the boxes currently in use, which is good - Firefox rules!. 5 stars, favorited and bookmarked, plus I've already saved the code for the rounded corners.

    Thank you!
