How to organize a LAN party

From a,b to LAN,I am going to cover all the the details to make it happen. This is a beginners course,later... the pro solution.

How to make it happen

Well first you should know what kind of LAN party you want. The casual gaming experience with friends and/or with their friends or an actual event, with more than 50 people.

Now the casual gaming experience.
You will need:
-a computer(as many as there will be people)
-somewhere to play
-network supplies(hub,cable,router)
-tables and chairs
-games you are going to play installed on the computer
Optional:
-people to bring their own network supplies

So set the date and find a place to play.Usually a garage or your room should be big enough(depending on how many people come.If it's around 30 people(the friends invited their friends, try to rent a place for a day.We got a the school gym for free, got some tables and chairs and only needed to pay for the power used.
If they are scared about the place you want to rent for a day, just tell them what is up and you should get it. Don't say like "we will cower the damage cost",even if there isn't going to be none, because the owners get scared.

Now connect to the hub and enjoy.

Now the event. If there is more than 50 people, you need to be organized.
I am going to cover the just playing event and the sponsored one.

The organizer
You will need:
-to know what you are doing
-a forum or site saying, where, when and what is going on
-a place to rent
-network supplies(hub,cable,router)
-tell everyone to bring their stuff(computer, network stuff,drinks,...)
-get chains and tables

Optional:
-a sponsor
-hire help
-have snacks and drinks

O.K. so you want to do in.So start with the site, forum and friends. Tell your friends to talk to every gamer they know about the event. Tell them about the price(enough to cover the cost for renting and a little extra for you hehe),what games where you thinking about playing and if the price will e right, where it will all happen. Get them to give you their e-mail and to put their name on some paper to keep record, how many people will come and to set the right price. On your site do the same. Post the price,date,place,...

Now lets say you did that and start looking for the place. Ask about the way you can pay. Now or another time,if you will pay with the money collected at the LAN. Look for not in use storage places(warehouses),smaller shops,... Look for the right price and if possible, the theme/design. Some warehouses have a small hut at the entrance(usually a you can get in/get out/GTFO security hut).It makes a good impression, looks cool and a special feeling during the game like Counter Strike,Team Fortress,Half-Life Deathmatch,....

Now about the tables or chairs. If you talk to the owner about getting them or renting them yourself. Make sure you have too many, not not enough and that they are not damaged or picnic tables.

Now set everything up before the event and wait.
As soon as the first one comes,if he has any drinks or food, get him to put it away until the event, bacause you will be having some trouble with stuff on the floor like a chocolate bar and someone might step in it and slip. Baaad stuff will happen if he is holding a computer .Now if he has network supplies, set it up,but first, tag it,so he will not lose it at the end of the game.

Now a lot of people came and it's time to start connecting the computers. If you have more than one game, connect the players of the same game together, because there vill be no fighting like,I'm not connected and this hub dosen't work.

Now I suggest you get a computer and a projector for projecting the matches and win/lose,scores,...

Now if you want a sponsor, try to tell them 1-2 months before the event, because some of them need to check if it's worth to sponsor you,or to talk how is it going to work. Look for sponsors like Razer,Logitech,Revoltec,SpeedLink,....

Well thats all what you need to know about organizing LAN party's. If you have any questions or would like me to add something to the blog, just e-mail me at: legice@gmail.com
