Loveable Blue Hound Dog By Hanna Barbera

The Huckleberry Hound Cartoon Show was the brain child of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera which aired for the first time on television in October of 1958. Adults and kids alike enjoyed watching this blue dog with his southern drawl and laid back, easy going manner. He could be a bit of a rube at times but his sweet nature and relaxed mannerisms won the hearts of many television viewers.

"Huck" (as he was sometimes called) would be featured in a variety of different job fields that he would almost always mess up and then come to a happy resolution by the end. Huckleberry Hound might be a policeman, a dog catcher, a farmer, or a western lawman in any given episode of the Cartoon Show. Viewers could almost always count on Huck singing his own version of "Oh My Darling Clementine" in his tone deaf style as a running gag in each cartoon.

Characters Found In Huckleberry Hound Cartoons

As we watched the Huckleberry Hound Cartoon Show each week, we began to see some regular characters joining Huck in his comical adventures. There were:

  • Powerful Pierre - Unshaven, tall and muscular with a French accent.
  • Dinky Dalton - A western outlaw of the rough and tough type.
  • Crazy Coyote - Huck's Indian nemesis
  • Ziggy And Iggy - Two crows with a Mafia style who liked to annoy poor Farmer Huck

We Could Often Hear Huckleberry Hound Say:

"And stuff like that there" as he tried to explain a situation in his asides to the audience. That line still cracks me up!
