About Hugo Cabret

Martin Scorsese turns a children's book into a live-action movie

Orphaned Hugo Cabret lives inside the walls of a Parisian train station, watching the action through the faces of the clocks he cares for. His mechanical skill and excessive curiosity send him on an adventure with his new friend Isabelle as they seek to uncover the mystery of her grandfather.

The movie is based on Brian Selznick's 2008 Caldecott Medal winning book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret, which broke new ground with its 300 double-spread pictures. Selznick's fascination with black and white movies shines on every page, so it should be interesting to see how it translates back to the big screen.

It also should be fascinating since this is the first project Scorsese has taken on in nine years that hasn't involved Leonardo diCaprio, his first ever 3D movie and *gasp* it involves children.

A Look at Asa Butterfield

Asa Butterfield: Hugo Cabret

Those gorgeous blue eyes are hard to forget. And are definitely part of Asa's appeal!

Asa's been acting since he was 8, although Americans won't have seen him in a few of his endeavors, since many of his efforts have been on British television. Those big eyes allow him to exhibit childish wonder when needed and squint up in skepticism other times.

A Look at Chloe Moretz

Chloe Moretz: Isabella

She's been acting for 10 years now, hard to believe since she isn't even able to drive yet!

Her breakthrough role came in 2005 as Chelsea "Missy" Lutz in the remake of The Amityville Horror. Her list of parts is long and impressive since then and she's definitely a talent that'll be sticking around a long time.

What's with the 3D?

This is Martin Scorsese's first ever 3D film. Not surprising that he hasn't done one, but it's become a standard now to make movies in 3D, which changes the way the movie is presented. (Oh, let's do it this way so the action comes out the screen!) When it's a nice drama like this one, I just don't see the need, purpose or reason for shooting in 3D. Screws everything up. Am I wrong?
