He Who Was King

The tiger, once revered as King, is now barely viable in its natural habitat, with only a few thousand left of all remaining tiger species. Long ago people respected this beautiful big cat, then came greed and fear. The tiger is being stripped of its habitat, killed for its skin and bones, and the Tiger is near extinction.
Help first arrived for the tiger in the late '40s, when the the Soviet Union prohibited tiger hunting in 1947. Still the tiger populations around the world severly declined. With three extinct tiger species, Save the Tiger, projects sprang into action. But with no avail. It is a new millenium, and with six tiger species left in the wild, there are but a few hundred left of each.
There is probably no hope for this beautiful creature. But that does not give us the right to stop the damage our forefathers did, and the damage done today. Let's not have the only living tigers left for our future child to admire be the caged tigers in zoos.

India's first anti-poaching tiger force begins work

January 4, 2012

54 men have been chosen to go forth into the forests of India and stop the poachers, and protect the tigers.
Now, there have been known cases of conservation park workers not protecting the tigers in their specially placed protected habitats.
So how are we to be cheerful of these 54 men? Can these men be truly trusted with the prevention of a species that has been on the brink of extinction since conservation efforts first went into place in 1973?

About the Photograph

This tiger was photographed in a nearby zoo. The tiger is a Siberian tiger. The photograph was taken with Pentax K10D. The photograph was then edited in Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 to remove the captivity grounds, and to create the sleek black background.
This image is available to purchase at my zazzle gallery, as a greeting card, poster, binder and many other merchandise.
