Do Human Rights outdate Cultural Relativism ?
As I gaze around our planet at a population over 6 billion and counting, I wonder to myself why we as a people can not and will not cease to stop treating our citizens with what I will deem in-"humaneness" with thoughtlessness equal to that of stepping on a roach. This notion of disregard for basic humanity is not new or unique to any Geo-political arena or society, or nation state, nor eastern or western society; and applies universally(no country is left out of this analysis). So what comes to mind for this blog is this notion of cultural relativism (which I will explain with much more detail), but at least for now, I will not accept it in itself as a term to use as an excuse or explanation for human rights abuses without exception.
So, who will be the first to discuss or propose a solution or a remedy for this nation-state, global, universal, dilemma of national sovereignty (I am a nation so I can do as I please), decolonization(I am a new nation so I can do as I please but I need help) and of course democratization( I am a new nation but if I am to get money I need to be a democracy) issue? Then as if that's not enough to tackle, we have globalization theories flying around like mosquitoes for us to try and sift through like sand. Hence there are no easy answers forthcoming; so what is one supposed to do about all of this? Does anyone even care? It is like shoveling sand in to the ocean, you can't fill the ocean with sand right? So, how can we answer these questions....?
Are the problems we are having with human rights globally a matter of cultural relativism, or some other matter that cannot be explained? So we just simply call them human rights abuses, bad people, so punish them right? Makes sense? Well yes, we have to have universal standards for lawbreakers that is why we have the United Nations, International laws, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and other International legislation and enforcement machinery.
However, there is still that contention by state sovereigns(leaders) that you do have to pay attention to and while you are listening because you want to of course, be prepared to discuss this notion of cultural relativism. Oh no! This is what at least in part, my blog is about. I intend to look at human rights abuses alledged and proved to have been commited by countried at least from 1989 (post cold war) to around 2003. We will examine several countries well documented and alledged to have occured. We will examine those countries particular cultures and see if there is some nexus between there "primitive "cultures and there modern human rights unlawful behaviors. Futhermore, a disucussion is necessary; how they can wind up abusing there people in the name of there culture? It's as if there is no morality or sense of rightness or wrongness as these cultures people proceed to inflict pain upon another individual in the name of ritual for some reason or another. It is really difficult to wrap your mind around it. You really just have to be there to understand it. Imagine you are an anthropologist. You have to just dismiss your own morals and sense of right and wrong as you engage in research of different cultures and primitive practices. No easy job yet someone has to do it correct? Ok enough with that....Lets step in to this with eyes and minds open.

Is it a Human Rights failure or a culture specific practice?
A human rights abuse to a particular countries lawmakers may only be a cultural practise to another countries society.
We will discuss different practices of cultures some dating centuries before "modern" human rights international laws. I encourage debate as it is good to have an open forum on these issues. This does not mean that the culture is not being abusive by any means.
Fetching RSS feed... please stand byThere is and always will be a strong East vs West debate between Human Rights and Cultural Relativism
Human RIghts and Cultures Are Paramount to Civilization
Although the argument will always be the same, it is a matter of conceptualization of morally weighty terms and discussions. Where do you draw the lines between a societal culture and a human rights abuse? Furthermore, international law mechanism now protect all humans in all nation-states from human rights abuses. So...now you have cultured practices that are human rights abuses .clearly...through any lenses you look through..but.how does this effect that society from within? We can look from outside and we can look from inside. But, we can not make that judgment or can we? Better yet, should we? Well, the most obvious answer is to protect those that can not protect themselves....right? Lets have a look at this dilemma.....
