Human Kindness

Sometimes when we look around today, or watch the news, or read the paper, it is hard to imagine that human kindness is still around. There have been several movements around doing kind things for strangers. I am making this lens to help showcase some of these and hopefully get more involved!

Random Acts of Kindness on Wikipedia

A random act of kindness is a selfless act performed by a person or persons wishing to either assist or cheer up an individual or in some cases an animal. There will generally be no reason other than to make people smile, or be happier. Either spontaneous or planned in advance, random acts of kindness are encouraged by various communities. An oft-cited example of a random act of kindness is, when paying the toll at a toll booth on a highway, to pay the toll for the vehicle behind you as well.

Join Me by Danny Wallace

I first read this book several years ago. I picked it up for about a buck at a bookstore that was closing down. I finished the book the same day and went back to that same bookstore and bought every copy off the shelf (there was 9), I then proceed to giving copies of the book to friends. It is not only a good read, it's funny, clever, and it actually reminds you that there are people out there willing to do some good for complete strangers. Since then I have joined Danny and recommended this book to tons and tons of people.

Free Hugs

The Free Hug Campaign is really kind of what it sounds like. It started with one man offering hugs to random strangers and evolved into a movement. Really, who doesn't need a hug sometimes?

Free Hugs is the real life controversial story of Juan Mann, a man whose sole mission was to reach out and hug a stranger put a smile on their face. In this age of social-disconnection most all of us lack that simple human touch from another, the effects of the Free Hugs Campaign are now felt around the globe. As this simple gesture of kindness and hope spread across the city, police and officials ordered the Free Hugs Campaign BANNED. What we then witnessed was the true spirit of humanity as people came together in what can only be described as something awe inspiring. In the spirit of the Free Hugs Campaign please pass this video to a friend and HUG a stranger! After all, you CAN make a difference. Music by Sick Puppies. Their album was release on April 3rd and is titled "Dressed Up As Life". http://sickpuppies.net ------------------------------------------------- The response to this video has been nothing short of overwhelming and touching. Hugs to every single one of you who messaged. There has been thousands of emails from all over the world from people seeking to participate in the Free Hugs Campaign and asking for permission. You don't need permission. This is the people's movement, this is *your* movement. With nothing but your bare hands you CAN make a difference. ------------------------------------------------
