The humming tops come in a variety of sizes, but all are colorful. Some have patterns that come to life when the top spins fast, then as it slows down, the patterns change. Most delightful from a child's perspective, though, is that the tops hum.
There is something fascinating in setting a spinning top in motion, and not only seeing it spin, but also hum. As a child, I would play with them for hours, trying to figure out how it hums. I tried spinning it faster or slower to get different tones to come out of the spinning top. This richness of colors, shapes, movement and sound kept me spellbound for hours.
