So you want hummingbirds in your yard, you are going to need a feeder and some food for them. Here is how I make my hummingbird food food. Then at the end you will see some great hummingbird feeders.

  • Boil four cups of water for five minutes to remove any contaminants.

  • Remove water from heat and add one cup of sugar. Stir to thoroughly dissolve sugar.

  • Cool mixture by putting it in refrigerator.

  • After cooling, place in appropriate hummingbird feeder.


  • There is no need to add food coloring, as the feeders color will attract hummingbirds. I use the one on the right and attract many species. I have several of these feeders.

    Note: If you buy the bird feeder featured in this article you need to remove the red tip on the end of the feeder to get a proper seal. By removing the red tip, you reduce the pressure inside the feeder allowing for a proper seal.

    If you are interested in attracting hummingbirds to your yard there are two ways to do it. One is by using the feeder with the sugar water. You should clean your feeder at least once a week. So depending on how many hummers yoy get to your yard should determine how much sugar water you put in your feeder.

    The second way is to plant a hummingbird friendly flower patch in your yard. Or you can do both.
