Humor Jeans - Danish Music Clothing

Humor Jeans are a very popular European brand of clothing, originating from Denmark. Over the past couple of years, Humor Clothing has been picked up by euro-teens and underground music fanatics and have transported it across Europe, Asia, the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, Canada and the United States; straight into the eager arms of the waiting youth and under-clubbers.

Humor clothing, especially the denim jeans, have a very distinct appearance and style to them making them impossible to miss. There are very few other brands on the market today that have an equally identifiable style to them. The shape of the legs are very difficult to describe, but avid wearers of the jeans have been known to affectionately call the shape things like 'wilting rose', 'reverse clamps', 'innie outie' and 'leg corsets'.

There are many styles and designs of Humor Jeans and other Humor clothing which this Lens will set out to discuss.

Humor Jeans - Santiago Style

Styles & Designs of Humor Denim Clothing

Humor Santiago Jeans

Although Humor has a very unique look to its clothing, and none more so than in its denim jeans, each individual style of Humor Jeans has its own uniqe style on top of that too.

The two biggest styles are the Humor Santiago and the Humor Zanka, both of which are present in their denim jeans as well as their shorts and chinos.

The Santiago, pictured above, is the most popular with teens and students, and has been featured across several European TV shows, such as being worn by Freddie in 'Skins', a British TV show aimed at teenagers and early-20 year olds. Because of this, and the large presence they have when worn in any surroundings (whether by people at parties, chilling with their mates, at college/university or just walking the streets), there has been a massive demand for the jeans, resulting in many sotres selling out and not being able to get any replacements leading to a shortage for around 6 weeks in early 2010.

The Santiago style, pictured above in the 'Raw' indigo selvedge denim, features some very unique features. Starting at the top of the garment and working down, the first thing that is noticed is the oversized waistband and belt loops. Humor Jeans are designed to look large on the wearer and hang low against the waist. When worn with an oversized belt (TIP: wearing an oversized, flourescent, canvass-material yellow or green belt would look the absolute business with all styles of humor jeans, but tone the colour down to a white or brown for use with Humor chinos) the blown out, dubbed over look is perfected.

Moving down the jeans, the next big thing (and big really IS the word!) are the pockets. These pockets, as well as the ones on the front, are enormous and feature a cinchback finish. These pockets are probably big enough to store tiny dogs in. You could sneak 4 chihuahuas into a rave, or 2 chihuahuas and (at least) two large packets of biscuits. If you go the whole chihuahua route, you could thereotically pull upwards of 4 socialite celebrities. Those ladies love tiny dogs, although I'd stop short of offering them biscuits.

After the pockets you have a drop-crotch. This means that the crotch appears a lot lower down than you'd expect, allowing for a lot more freedom and flexibility in how you wear these items. You'll also be protecting yourself against a visit from Ms. Betty Swallocks, if you know what we mean. Surprisingly, the lower crotch doesn't lend itself to restricing movements, and you can expect to make similar strides to that of which you could make in any other pair of jeans. With Humor drop crotch jeans (it's ok to refer to them as Humor low crotch jeans, nobody will get you for it) you have enough freedom and air circulation going on to not be held back by what you may have previously seen as being awkward (both physically and socially).

The last of the prominent and noticeable feautres on the Humor Jeans are the twisted seams. Now, the twisted seams aren't of themselved the big feature, what IS the big feaure is the effect of the twists. The twisted seamary causing the dynamic and the shape of the legs to twist around itself and actually pull the ends in towards the centre of gravity. This means that while the jeans may look quite baggy in the style, it's a very inconsistent with the socially accepted form of baggy. In a usual pair of jeans, you'd expect the thigh, calf and hem to be very loose, and perhaps bang against your legs as you walk, not grip them. Humor Jeans, however, grab your legs from the front and inside, and the bagginess moves across to the outer leg and behind, giving the padding, look and comfort of baggy jeans, but also the security and closeness of a straight cut jean. Win - Win.

The Santiago style also lends itself to Humor Chinos and Humor Shorts, both chino and denim styles. It's well good, for real yo'.

Humor Jeans - Zanka Style

The second most popular style of Humor Jeans

Humor Zanka Jean

The Humor Zanka Jeans are the second of the main styles of Humor Jeans, and also the second most popular (the most popular is the santiago, shown above).

The same design technique, methodology and philosophy ring true for the Zanka Style jeans as they do for the Humor Santiago jeans. This is a good thing :)

The jeans have oversized elements in the usual suspects, namely the pockets, beltloops, stitching detail and tension points. The crotch is lower than bad jokes about priests and play-parks and the rear felt features a sliding back tensioner. The waistband also holds on to the Humor logo (affectionately known as the 'Radiohead', which is also oversized).

Along with its Santiago brethren, the Zanka jean as a low-cut crotch and a baggy feel. Again, these Humor Zanka Jeans are cut in a carroty banana shape. If the buttons were grape shaped this would make a great recipe for some form of milkshake or smoothie ("NO, Innocent! These are jeans not drinks you sillies!"), but they're not. The buttons are cool but not grapes. They are, however, partially exposed giving a run-down, middle-class-but-don't-mess-with-me-I-like-music-from-DJs-in-Europe look that's all the rage.

So how much different are the Zanka and the Santiago styles? They're about £10 different both similarly inspired designs, but each takes the same inspiration ion different ways. While both jeans have a dropped (or low) crotch, they both do so in different ways, one is pretty flat and has exposed buttons, the other is not and does not. However, the designs follow the same Humor Jeans characteristics as would be expected and being seen in Humor jeans is just as big an event as winning any old Olympic or Football medal or trophy is. Seriously, I'm not making this up or exaggerating in any way.

Another thing that is different is that, sometimes, the stitching has different emphases. This is almost definitely true.

Humor Chinos

The squave approach to Humor clothing

Humor Chinos follow the style, design, layout and appearance patterns of the corresponding Humor Jeans that which they are styled after.

The only difference is in the usage of material. Humor Jeans are made from denim, obviously. They wouldn't be jeans if they weren't. Although, they could be denim-style legging-jeans, but that wouldn't make sense for other reasons. Also, they're a little cheaper, but not enough to bother your mates over.

If you prefer to take a lighter step then Chinos are the way to go. If you also like the style or energies of the humor brand, then a Humor Chino is the perfect match. The Chinos come in the same styles as the Jeans, so you can't get far wrong. Unlike the jeans, they come in several colours. Just for starters; there are beige, blue, grey black and white Humor Chinos. If for whatever reason you want Jeans in these colors, they'll be skinny and you'll look daft. Just don't.

While I generally prefer a Jean to a Chino, I find it hard to resist the Nixon humor chino. The 'Nixon' is not unlike the other styles already mentioned. One very unique feature to the Nixon style is that the button fly is diagonal. ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER CHINO HAS DONE THIS BEFORE*.

Like all Chinos, Humor Cheans are easy-going and light to wear. Unlike other Chinos, Humor have very unique designs and a look that will get you noticed from a bazillion** miles away.

*except for any other Chino that has done this.
**a bazillion is no more than 0.5

Humor Clothing For Women

At the present time there is no range of Humor Clothing for women. Although there has been no mention of a womens range in the future plans for the Autumn/Winter 2011 season, it's important to note that there hasn't been any mention at all. This means that there could be a women's range of Humor clothing coming in 2011, but it's important to remember that it has been neither confirmed not denied, and at this stage there is not enough evidence to say whether there definitely will or will not be an announcement soon.

Other Great Fashion Brands

If you're a fan of Humor Jeans, there's a good chance you''' also enjoy a few of these other brands. I'd definitely recommend Elvis Jesus (or you can read about Elvis Jesus Clothing on Squidoo).
