$100,000 a year Squidoo profit: Part I

I must start with a disclaimer: "Make $100,000 a year from Squidoo" is not about a magic Squidoo profit system that gurantees a Squidooer such an income. Whether it is realistic or not is subject to test and depends on the individual Squidooer. So you can exit at this juncture if you think this lens is not for you. I assume that the reader of this Squidoo profit lens has some basic knowledge of what Squidoo is all about but if you don't have, despair not. Here is the link to an article by MeganCasey, the Editor in Chief of Squidoo, that is highly recommended reading: Getting Started With Squidoo. Very simply, Squidoo is a platform where you can post articles (known as lenses) for free and yet are able to earn some money either for yourself or for charity (the choice is yours). For those eyeing to profit from Squidoo, you need to first aquire some basic knowledge on Squidooing.

Back to Squidoo profit system. "Make $100,000 a year from Squidoo" is a blueprint to achieve making this annual sum from Squidoo. Let's first look at the potential earnings per month of each income-generating lens. Before this, I like to introduce you to one lens that has given me much inspiration: Are you a Stay at Home Mom (or Dad) Interested in Earning a Monthly Income?". The lensmaster behind this is none other than Squid Giant Janet 21, who is a great example of how one can make money "from" and "through" Squidoo. "From" meaning that a deserving lens gets a share of the profits that Squidoo makes. "Through" meaning that you can use Squidoo as a place to sell products, including digital ones, either direct to the customer or through affiliate marketing (for starters, here is one reference article: Introduction To Online Affiliate Marketing). So when I say "Make $100,000 a year from Squidoo", I actually mean make $100,000 a year "from" and "through" Squidoo. Is this possible? Read on...

Let's begin with creating lenses - the more the merrier for the Squidoo profit system to work. You first have to decide what you want to write about and the niches that you have interest or expertise in. Having decided on this, the next question is how many lenses (articles) that you should write as a first step to making $100,000 a year "from" and "through" Squidoo. First look at what Squidoo pays for each deserving lens (figures based on February 2009 payments): Tier 1 lens $11.43; Tier 2 $1.81; and Tier 3 $0.08. For those interested to know what the tiers are, here is the link for Payment FAQ. My question is: Can you create five lenses a day, working out to some 1,800 articles per year? This shouldn't be a problem as writing a lens on Squidoo involves only a few steps. Don't believe me? Here is the link for you to find out how easy it is: Write My First Lens. Assuming it is hard to ensure every article is a quality one and is well-visited, and that half of the 1,800 lenses you wrote for the year, that is 900, manged to get into Tier 3 status, meaning earning 8 cents each. This works out to $72 per month or $864 per year in terms of payment received for these 900 lenses. Your job is to work hard to make sure a further 200 lenses or about 11.11 per cent of the 1,800 lenses you wrote for the year got into Tier 1 status. This will reap 200 x $11.43 = $2,286 per month or about $27,432 per year. We have to make sure the remaining 700 lenses hit Tier 2 status, meaning earning 700 x $1.81 = $1,267 per month or about $15,204 per year. So how much do we get "from" Squidoo for the 1,800 lenses? The total is $864 + $27,432 + $15,204 = $43,500 per year. Which means we're still ($100,000 - $43,500) or $56,500 short of the annual $100,000 target. Read on...

The preceding module on the Squidoo profit system talks about making money "from" Squidoo. Now we come to the part about making money "through" Squidoo. Let's assume 8.33% or 150 lenses make $32 a month each from third parties. This is equivalent to $4,800 month or $57,600 per year. So the total money made "from" and "through" Squidoo is $43,500 + $57,600 = $101,100! And all this because of Squidoo!

I know there are sceptics out there who say that the $100,000 a year Squidoo profit system blueprint in this lens is not easy to attain as it is based on many assumptions. I agree with this as I've said at the outset that this blueprint is not a magic formula and is subject to test and to the performance of the individual Squidooer. But like all business strategies, we have constantly to monitor the performance of our lenses and fine-tune them along the way to achieve the $100,000 target. If we write more than five lenses a day, it means that the one-year period target to achieve $100,000 can even be shortened. If on the other hand, the lenses didn't make as much as envisaged, it means more lenses will have to be written. In such an event, the $100,000 target may take more than one year. But I would have made my point if readers agree that $100,000 is attainable.

I find the lens bdkz's Best Squidoo Tips very inspiring. Bonnie, known as lensmaster bdkz., is a Giant Squid Organizer and a Squid Angel. She has created more than 400 lenses, achieved "Lens of the Day" at least twice and have had numerous of her lenses in the Top 100.
