I cook Hungarian goulash and other Hungarian dishes at home. I came from Slovakia, and my grandparents were Hungarians. Great cuisine, great food!!!

I haven't made goulash in a long time. Your recipe has made me hungry for it. Do you ever make yours with the hot Hungarian paprika instead of the sweet? We like hot and spicy so I use the Szego Hot Hungarian Paprika. I want to try your recipe, but I am wondering if I should make it with the sweet Hungarian to keep it authentic. *Squid Angel Blessed* and added to My Squid Angel Blessings 2012 in the "Food & Cooking » Regional Foods » European Food" neighborhood.

"Made in Hungary," "shot in Hungary," and finally "eaten in Hungary!" by someone who was hungry. If I hadn't just finished a big dinner I'd have to stop here and make some Hungarian goulash. I lived for a time with an elderly Hungarian lady. My, she had some very special dishes! It was quite an education. Angel blessings and will add to Best Lens of the Year Quest.

You're lenses are all fantastic and you've used modules and html/css code that I've learned from and that has helped me to spice up my own lenses! Thanks :)

Goulash can be made very differently, and even in Germany you can get Goulash in many different variations.Great lens, and great information! thank you!
  • TamaraKajari Oct 18, 2011 @ 12:45 pm | delete
Croatia is too close to Hungary both geographically and historically for us not to have goulash often :) Especially when my last name is Kajari (my husband's grandfather changed the original name of Kajary to the wone with an i at the end when he came to Croatia long ago). Goulash is great winter food too, although my kids don't like it too spicy. What a beautiful facts on paprika too :) Blessed!!!

Dear Julie, i did write a lens about gulyas, without reading yours, i am so sorry, because maybe now they are having some contradictions, even not really because i did approach differently. But i like yours, enormously, it so attractive to read.

Julie, you've got me drooling again! I think I may have only had goulash once in my life...when I was a kid. But I wish I had a bowlful right about now...with some crusty bread and a glass of red wine on the side. Another perfectly delicious lens. :)

Growing up in Vermont my grandmother made a dish called interchangeably Goulash or American Chop Suey. I consisted of Macaroni, ground beef, onions, green bell peppers and Ketchup. Though it makes a gook comfort food, your recipe sounds so much better.

My mother was from Vienna. She used to make my favorite dish: Kalbsrahmgulasch (Veal Cream Goulash). OmiGod, that was good! Veal strips browned, with all the regular goulash flavoring ingredients, and added cream.
Your lens is a great example for an aspiring lensmaster like myself. Thank you. Gotta go now - I'm hungry!

Love your lens! And I love goulash, too. My grandmother made it, my mother made it, and now I make it myself. The version I make has a Viennese flair to it. Also, you might want to post "The Goulash Place," a restaurant in Danbury, CT. There's a nice description of it on www.roadfood.com
