A Hunter 29.5 Named "Five Seas"
It's been 6 summers, since I made the decision to buy a 1994 Hunter 29.5 sailboat named at that time "Cheers Mate". It's owners were looking for something a little bigger (6 foot-itus) and I was looking to venture into the little explored (at least my me) world of sailing. Considering how naive I was about the whole transaction, it's turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life.
A few years after buying the boat, I found myself cruising the North Channel. That was a two week trip that took a bit of planning, and upgrading of the boat. You'll need some charts or navigational software that uses electronic charts if your going to do a trip like this, but it's well worth the effort.

Sailing With Kids
It wouldn't be the same without them.
I must admit, that there are times when I wonder if Five Seas is a boat or a cottage. With five people involved, consensus is not always achievable. So sometimes, on perfectly nice sailing days, our boat dons it's alter ego disguise of a small cottage. We're only steps from the beach and the sand, so it's an easy disguise to carry off. At least for some. I see right through it most of the time, and wonder why no one else does.

A Hunter Sailboat Review Video
It's from Hunter themselves, but it's kinda interesting
I think I'm ready for a upgrade from my little 29.5 after watching this video. The Hunter 41 looks pretty amazing. I really like the idea of in mast furling and the stainless steel arch. I thought it was funny though, when they mentioned you can sit 9 people comfortably in the cockpit for entertaining. Why, just a few weeks ago, we had 14 in the cockpit of our 29.5 while having drinks at the dock. It was a cozy 14, but we still had a transom seat that was empty at the time.

- That sounds like an interesting setup JustinShar. I'd really like to see a picture of that entertainment unit. I've thought about the full enclosure for our boat a few times. Especially the last few days, as we're spending the week on the boat, and it's been raining a ton.

- All I can say is DITTO! We have owned a 29.5 Hunter sailboat for the past few years and with two young boys (now 4 and 6) it couldn't have been a better buy. The cockpit space is amazing ... my husband can't stop comparing our cockpit to those of larger boats. The original owners of our boat lived aboard so they took the dining table out down below and custom built a wooden "entertainment center" with a mirrored vanity (which houses a flat screen TV), a hanging closet and a several drawers. It also has a complete cockpit enclosure which has been an absolute winner for us. Although the time has come for us to start looking for a bigger boat we cannot say enough about the pleasure this boat has given us!

- Thanks for showing us your sailboat. When I was a kid we had a flat-bottomed boat. Nothing like a sailboat I assure you. Every year we paddled out over the flood waters in the Kootenay valley. It was my job to watch out for fence posts and wire as we sailed in "uncharted" waters. It is great that you are building memories for your children. 5 stars, favorite and wishing you the very best.
