Digging Treasure at the Hogg Mine Georgia

A short article about my digging experience at the Hogg mine in Georgia! We found Black Tourmaline and Rose quartz and it is just awesome! Come read my adventure as a Treasure digger in Georgia!

Georgia Tourmaline at the Hog Mine

Today me and my dad decided to go to a rock dig in Lagrange Ga at Hogg Mine! We got up this mourning at 4 and left out on our 3 hour drive! We arrived in the Lagrange at the meeting spot signed up and had a short meeting about mine field digging safety! We then followed the line of folks down the road about a mile and entered the mine area!
It was a little chilly and the dirt was muddy and slick as can be!

I spent the first hour wading through mud looking for fresh exposed treasure! The first area we dug in was in a pile that had been piled up years ago and a few of the diggers started finding nice pieces of rose Quart! I looked for a bit longer and decided to move to another area and didn't have luck and decided to walk to the main pit! As soon I got to the new pit I found some very pretty pieces of rose Quartz and everyone around me were finding some beautiful Beryl! I wasn't familiar with beryl so I took a look and wow it is really very pretty! It had a very nice blue Hugh to it and was perfectly formed!

I kept looking around for another hour and decided to check on my dad! I walked over to the area where he was and he yelled at me and told me to get over there! He tapped into a vain of Tourmaline and started pulling out some very nice Tourmaline in quart! The dirt was so muddy that I walked to a water hole and got some water to wash off the new jewels! The mud was on thick so it took a few dunks and finally I pulled an awesome crystal of the water!

By this time just about everyone at the dig was digging holes and finding great Tourmaline pieces. We worked a few more hours and decided that we had dug ourselves silly and decided to pack up and head home! We ended up finding some really nice tourmaline crystals and also some rose Quart! This was our second dig; our first dig was at Graves Mountain where they have some awesome rutile! We can't wait till the next dig!

There is nothing like digging down in a hole and pulling out treasure! I have managed to clean then off pretty good and the red Georgia mud had managed to stain the quartz. We broke much of the Tourmaline trying to get it out but I do have about 15 pieces that I am going to make necklaces out of!

We got about 12 nice pieces in Quartz in various sizes. Some of them are super small and clustered and the other larger and sitting alone. After I polish the pieces down and make a few necklaces, I may turn some of the larger crystals into necklaces!

It really is hard to decide how share the pieces and I have never made necklaces before. I plan on taking some help and wire and giving it my best shot. I can't wait to share my creation with the world!

Hopefully we will have out Tourmaline collection on-line within a few weeks! If you love crystals check out my Alabama Rock company site! Soon we will be adding some very cool geodes and agates from the Alabama area!

It is the perfect time of the year to get out in the woods and play in the river and also dig rocks before it gets too hot! You could be a treasure digger tomorrow and find some awesome rose quart or Tourmaline.
Be careful and keep an eye on the weather I will see you in the woods soon!
