Hurricane Protection Tips
Doc_Hurricane Addresses Homeowners' Concerns for Hurricane Protection
Help Protect Your Home From Hurricane Damage
The Basics
Recent hurricanes caused tremendous damage and serve as a vivid reminder for homeowners to take necessary precautions to protect against the potential building damage caused by hurricanes. Major building damage occurs primarily because of damage to the roof. If the roof goes away, the walls fall. The resulting loss is catastrophic. If the roof can be protected, the building often can be protected. The best way to protect the roof structure is to attenuate upward forces, which arise when wind exerts pressure from inside the building. Wind enters a building through breached openings, most of which are glass. While conventional glass may be able to withstand some of the wind pressures exerted by a hurricane, conventional glass cannot withstand the impact from airborne debris that hurricanes generate. Many types of products are available that provide engineered, tested, and approved window protection. These products typically can be reused and cost less than plywood over a time as brief as a couple of storm events. Moreover, Section 627.0629(1), Florida Statutes, requires insurers to include appropriate discounts, credits or other rate differentials, or appropriate reductions in deductibles, for properties on which such fixtures have been installed.

Getting your product listed...
It's thanks to you manufacturers and installers that our homes are safer come June 1. I want to feature as many products as I can; you can facilitate this process by contacting me using the link at the top of the lens.
Once we've made contact, it helps if you pull together and email me a media kit with the product you'd like to have featured. Saves me time in trying to find all the specs and capture the product shots. Great photography is the best. The more detail you can provide, the easier it is for me to write the review.
Sending a test report on a product. I will review it and compare it to others, then I will post my thoughts. I don't return reviewed material.
If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer them!

I am not really a doctor, I just play one on the web. I am an engineer, however, and I know hurricane protection.
