Hello My Friends
My name is Jerry Wipf and I am an Ex-Hutterite.
An Ex What.. you ask? What in the world is an Ex-Hutterite?
It is very simple my friend. An Ex-Hutterite is someone who has chosen to leave the Hutterite Colony or has chosen to no longer practice the lifestyle.
Please know that all because I no longer live in the colony and no longer practice the traditions of the Hutterites does not mean that I am not proud of my Hutterite background.
I am very proud of how I was raised. I simply do not agree with some of the rules, the traditions they honor, such as, not being able to do your own thing, create your own dollars for your own use.. etc... so does that make me a bad Hutterite? UMMM, I guess that depends who you ask.
Hutterites are wonderful hard working and family oriented people, but many people think there is definitely something mysterious about 'em as they are a very private and quiet people and keep mostly to themselves. They hardly ever make the news or initiate interviews and they like it that way!
I thought I would share a little about these unique people, their traditions, their history and at the same time share some of my stories of me growing up as a Hutterite. (I left the colony when I was 18)
