Limelight Hydrangea Or Is It?

Look At My Hydrangea Pictures!

The Hydrangea Pictures on this page were taken in our yard in Pendleton, South Carolina. I really am not sure what variety we have. Let me tell you about it and maybe you can help me decide.

It was over 30 years ago when my husband and I visited his aunt and uncle in Laurens South Carolina and I first saw a Limelight Hydrangea in full bloom. "Uncle Jamie" called it a Mountain Hydrangea so that is what I have always called it until I began making this lens and found out that it is actually a Limelight Hydrangea, I think.

It was love at first sight so "Uncle Jamie" broke off two sticks that looked like dead branches and told me to take them home and put them in water and forget about them until spring. I did exactly what he told me and was so shocked when springtime came and I had two sticks with roots everywhere. I couldn't wait to get them in the ground and they have continued to grow and bring much pleasure to us all of these years.

Whatever it is, we sure have enjoyed it.

Could you help me decide once and for all the name of our Hydrangea?

Pee Gee Hydrangeas

Limelight Hydrangea is one of the Pee Gees

The Pee Gee hydrangea is a type of paniculata hydrangea.and Limelight is one of the most popular Pee Gees. Pee Gee Blossoms are large and Cone Shaped. Their color starts with shades of green, then white, then purple tints and finally a beautiful rusty autumn gold. Their color is not affected by the PH of the soil like the mop head Hydrangeas.

My arrangement using hydrangea, ginger lilly and acuba

I love the white and green

This hydrangea picture is from the Hydrangea in my yard along with a couple of stalks of Ginger Lilly and several branches of Acuba. The Acuba Foliage does so well in an arrangement and I like to leave it in the water after I remove the dead flowers and let it root. I have them in several places around our yard and enjoy using them in the house. Of course, the smell of the Ginger Lilly really is nice in the house.

I wish I knew more about the different varieties of Hydrangea but I've certainly enjoyed seeing all these wonderful photos. I'm glad my Carolina Anole lens was helpful in identifying your little green pal, who also seems to love Hydrangeas! :)

I don't know if this is a Limelight Hydrangea or not, because I have never heard of that before, but I do like Hydrangeas. We used to have a blueish one when I lived in North London and the flowers changed color if you fertilized it with the right minerals. Love the pictures, and the little Anole too, very cute. Nicely done, blessed.

I love hydrangeas but never grew them myself so I wouldn't be able to help you identify your plant. A very lovely lens. Blessed! :)

Beautiful lens! I love the hydrangeas, but haven't a clue what kind they are. Interesting comment by Kylyssa may explain the confusion. But I love looking and reading about them anyway!

Beautiful lens! I love hydrangeas. Whatever it is, yours is certainly a beautiful specimen. I had a hydrangea that I tried to bring with me when I moved from that house

It's surely one of the Pee Gees and probably limelight. Hydrangeas can also be confusing to identify because they respond differently to different nutrient levels in the soil. The degree of difference between individual hydrangea plants of a single cultivar can be enormous. I adore hydrangeas.
