I believe that our only hope is to seek methods to avoid the high gas prices. The hypermiling technique is something you can take a closer look at, but you have to be very careful because some characteristics of hypermilng are illegal such as drafting, which is coasting along behind a large vehicle. Plan your route. If you know the exact spots where you are about to approach a stop sign or stop light, you can slow down your vehicle before you get there and not have to step on the brakes suddenly.
If you are going to use your cruise control (another gas saving tip), make sure you do so when it is not rush hour traffic. You don't want drivers screaming at you.
Inflate your tires. Be careful with this tip because if you inflate too much, you can blow your tires.
Unload bicycle racks from your car. The heavy load in your vehicle is not helpful in saving gas.
