Can I use hydrogen peroxide from grocery store?
  • CleanerLife Apr 13, 2012 @ 2:22 pm | delete
If it isn't approved for internal use, I wouldn't.

I use Hydrogen Peroxide, yes its a little foamy, but my gums stopped receding
  • KatieLay Nov 21, 2011 @ 9:49 pm | delete
Had no idea you could use it as mouthwash

I believe hydrogen peroxide is one of the eco-friendly material that can be used for cleansing like what you are saying that it's an effective mouthwash. I myself also use such. Great lens!

I do use hydrogen peroxide for many things - it is great!
  • glorygirl Jan 1, 2011 @ 11:55 am | delete
If you buy the 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide you must dilute!!!!!! It can burn and cause severe damage!!!!! I use it for my toothpaste with a natural baking soda, you can use it in bath water for oxygen, cleaning solution, watering your plants, there are so many uses. Its AWESOME!
  • george185 Dec 2, 2010 @ 8:38 pm | delete
I have never thought of doing that... it sounds really disgusting.
  • CleanerLife Dec 3, 2010 @ 9:09 am | delete
I'm not sure if you mean using 35% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide, or just Hydrogen Peroxide Mouthwash in general. The mouthwash doesn't taste bad, especially compared to some of the other antiseptic mouthwashes I've tried.

For an alternative try Jason's Natural Healthy Mouth. It isn't an antiseptic mouthwash, but it has Aloe Vera, Clove and Tea Tree Oil, all of which have long been valued for their healing properties.

What I use all the time, it even lists mouthwash as one of the uses on the label! Great lens!
  • Dave Carrell May 26, 2010 @ 1:04 am | delete
You can use the hydrogen peroxide you buy from the drugstore--just read the label first to make sure it's okay for oral use. I just checked the ones you can buy at CVS, Walgreens, and Whole Foods. All of them are okay for oral use, and all of them are already at 3% strength so you don't need to further dilute it.

Thank you so much for educating me about Hydrogen Peroxide uses and the disadvantages of tooth pastes and sugarless gum. And to think we pay so much more for sugarless gum in the hope that it will benefit us not knowing it may just be the opposite?
I have bought hydrogen peroxide to use as mouthwash and just left it there...it is so strong but I'll try it again.

I have been using regular hydrogen peroxide mixed in water for some time. How nice to know there is a real nice and tasty one out there. (and I don't have to be so careful about swallowing!) Thank you! Great idea!
  • Tipi Apr 26, 2009 @ 8:42 pm | delete
Food grade hydrogen peroxide is an awesome product. In a mouthwash in safe amounts is a true stroke of genius! I have never tried this product, but I do know how to use food grade hydrogen peroxide in safe amounts. - It has to be a superior product over store brand mouth washes. - With the flue going around, this would be a great product for everyone to use. - Susie

Never thought of using HP for mouthwash! Something new - thanks! 5*

I don't use mouthwash too frequently but this does certainly seem like a much better option!
  • spirituality Mar 1, 2009 @ 2:01 am | delete
Not sure I'll be following your example with mouth wash at all - but if I were, I would certainly go for a food grade product. There is a reason why many chemicals (and make no mistake, we are talking chemicals) are not meant for digestion. And the main reason is, as you said, that there will usually be rest chemicals left over from manufacture in there. There really is no reason to want those near your mouth.
