Hydroponics: Vegetable growing indoors
If you would like to go into hydroponics then a grow tent might an ideal purchase to help you get started. A grow tent is a small fabric building which is made like a tent and used for many types of gardening exercises. From a meter to a couple meters square in size these tents give the gardener room to grow their indoor crops. They are great for in indoor gardening enthusiast who wants to work with their hobby but doesn't have the space.
Hydroponic Systems
Hydroponic Growing Systems allow plants to be grown in an artificial medium instead of soil. A standard system might have vegetables being grown in a nutrient enriched water solution. Aeroponics is another form of Hydroponic Systems that works by spraying and atomizing the nutrients onto the leaves and body of the crop. This process allows for optimal absorption of nutrients, and some feel the plants grow larger, and yield more with this method of delivery. Aquaponics is a third type of system where fish are used to create nutrient rich water that hydrates the roots of the plant. Growing media
Growing media for hydroponics systems come in different forms. In these systems, the media takes the place of a 'soil'. Different types of growing media include mineral wool, expanded gray and baked clay pellets. Mineral wool is fantastic for a media as it distributes nutrients and water evenly.Coco peat, the fibers from the outer coconut shell, is another commonly used media. It has a natural bacteria that protects roots while stimulating growth. Coco peat stores minerals and as the plant needs them they are released. This ensures that the plant is not over watered but has optimal levels of minerals and nutrients.
Lightweight Perlite is another type of glass pebble. Its volcanic origin has been super heated, similar to Vermiculaite. Both are excellent growing media. Brink, sand, polystyrene packing peanuts, and wood fiber also can be used. Easy to use watering systems (hydroponic systems) will deliver water to your plants. Use one that is as trouble free as possible.
Grow Light Systems
Grow light systems come in many shapes, sizes, and wattages. Flourescent lighting is inexpensive, but doesn't produce enough lumens (number used to measure light output) to provide optimum yield. Incandescent bulbs can run more expensively, but produce high lumens to promote great plant growth. LED Lights are relatively new to the game, and are inexpensive to run, but have high upfront costs. Remember to get ones that are suitable for your grow tent. by ElysianEnt
