yes, in fact if get more close to a natural ambien your health is better. I had a kind of allergy when I used some medicines.. for the advice of the doctor.. and when I stopped doing it... and I solved another problem underlying I had... my allergy solved and my kind of blepharitis solved too. The fact is that these months with the h1n1 I used alcohol to rub my hands a few times a day and ... in this months I have had many colds ... I mean one after another... so I guess that I have to look for other alternatives... Anyway there is a lot of info about how drinking alcohol damage the immune system (http://www.questia.com/googleScholar.qst?docId=5002548742) but there are not studies about the effect of alcohol sanitizers. Is the same principle so it should have an effect... but nobody says that ... maybe because that would bother the interest of emergent pharmaceutical companies ?

I was so excited when I found this lens! I had been contemplating doing one similar, but could not have done the subject justice like you have done. Very, very good!!!!!! Lensrolled it to all my lenses!

Thank you so much for this lens! The information is so important. I have featured it on my lighter side of germ phobia Great ***** lens!

It's nice to know there's an actual scientific basis for something I've long suspected! Basic precautions like safe handling of raw meat and washing your hands after using the toilet are one thing, but the American obsession with getting rid of every germ or fleck of dust takes it too far, imho.

Very nice lens and I totally agree with you. We have become so obsessed with cleanliness that sometimes it interferes with living life. Kids are supposed to play outside, climb trees, make mud puddles and get really dirty! That's just normal life! Thank you for a common-sense view of our germophobia!

A very well written lens - ***** An interesting hypothesis. I don't think anyone understands allergies very well. I have them and I'm certainly NOT miss clean! Wish is was that simple.

Yea, when I was a kid, I traveled between houses (in Iowa winters) with no coat, my friend Mark, whose mother always bundled him, always had a cold.

On a sadder note, when my brother was little in the 40's there was a polio scare. All mothers were careful, but one neighbor wouldn't let her son go out and play with the other 'germy' kids. He was the only one who got polio.

People have gone nuts. I don't follow their lead and am extremely healthy!

    Thanks!

Germs used to scare me until I had a baby then I got used to it.

I do agree with you. I've thought for a long time that the increase in allergies is due to overdoing the hygiene. I come from the generation where we tasted mud, had a lick from our friend's ice cream and various other unsanitary activities and yet kids seemed to be healthier and recover quickly when they got sick.

    5* lens.

I really liked this lens because i am faced with a very low immune system. A Dr. told me at time i had an immune deficiency and he called it IGA. What that means i haven't a clue. But i have all ways been the first one of the kids to bring home the colds, flues, you name it i get it. Now even as an adult i have strep, bacteria infections.

Thank you for your lens. A

That was an interesting article. First time I've read anything about the Hygiene Hypothesis and all of my children suffered from allergies with one having severe asthma.

Agreed we may go so far overboard that there comes a point of no return. Excellent information!

When my girls were much younger, I was obsessed with keeping things absolutely clean and sanitized. I used to get so irritated when, after a day at grandma's, I get them back and they look like they have been rolling around in the mud and every meal they had is caked on their clothes; and my mother would gently tell me, "a little dirt never killed anyone". Well, I think some dirts, no matter how little, can kill you too, but I learned that you can also go overboard about being clean. A happy, sensible medium is probably best.

    Great post!

God, I have so much to learn about homeopathy. Where shall I begin? On top of your lensography, of course! 5*s

I definitely agree that the "anti-bacterial" products aren't good..they are overused. Antibiotics are over prescribed as well. I only took flu vaccines for a few years because my father had leukemia and a very poor immune system. Not sure about allergies though. I grew up in a rural area, spent lots of time outdoors and with animals, and was exposed to alot, but still have significant allergies.
