What Is Homeopathy?
In a very small nutshell.
The primary law of homeopathy is "similia similibus curentur", or simply put, "like cures like". Substances that can make you ill (or hyper, as in the case of coffee) can also cure you. Coffee is a stimulant, therefore if someone is over-stimulated, administering a homeopathic preparation of coffee will counter-act that.Think about how hyperactivity is treated in children with ADHD. Do doctors prescribe a sedative to calm them down? No, the ADHD medications, like Ritalin, are STIMULANTS. Yet, these stimulants actually counteract the hyperactivity.
To put it VERY simplistically, I like to explain it like this: A fly lands on your arm and it tickles. The fly has stimulated the nerve endings in your skin. So, what do you do? You scratch it. You apply MORE of the same stimulation which caused the itch in the first place, and the tickling sensation goes away. This is much like the action of homeopathic remedies - taking a substance which causes your symptoms only stronger, will "knock out" the symptoms you were suffering from. It overpowers them, and stimulates your body to mount a defense.

- My husband was given hypericum for residual nerve pain after recovering from Guillan Barre'. It seems to help quite a bit, although as you said, relief is temporary.

- lisadh - I hope you received my e-mail. For everyone else - I generally only recommend Hypericum in the oral form. I just haven't seen enough evidence of it's efficacy for topical application.

- Very interesting. My partner has nerve pain from a back injury. Can you include something here to explain how to use hypericum? The product above is obviously an oral med, but are there also topical applications?
