This lens focuses on a beginning understanding of the disease. I am a kidney transplant patient, and I know firsthand of its dangers. Since my transplant, I have/am gathering much information about hypertension. This lens is the result of my research. And I hope it will be a help to my readers.
Doctors advise weight loss and regular exercise as the initial steps in treating mild to moderate high blood pressure. These steps are very helpful in reducing blood pressure, but often difficult to achieve. Most patients with moderate or severe hypertension end up requiring drug therapy to bring their blood pressure down to a safe level. The best advice is to see your doctor first, have your blood pressure checked, and follow her advice! This lens will offer several tips and resources that I hope you will find helpful!

1. Watch Your Weight: In over weight people, a 10 percent reduction in total body weight will sometimes normalize blood pressure.

2. Get Physical: Go for a brisk 30-minute walk 6 days a week.

4. Butt Out: All forms of tobacco dramatically raise blood pressure.
