Everyone young and old is mesmerized by the magical world of hypnotism. This is something that fascinates one as it seems just magical that the hypnotist can gain control over the subject just by swinging pendulums and snapping fingers.

Hypnotism is something that has fascinated mankind for a long time to come. The usual picture that accompanies hypnotism is of the hypnotist swinging a coin in front of the patient, after which the patient is hypnotized by the hypnotist. However this does not mean that just because you have confidence, that you can just hypnotize a person by winking your eyes and saying a few dramatic sentences.

As a hypnotist, you have to exude the same confidence that a salesperson has who walks into your house, and talks you into buying something you never thought of buying, or don't have a need of buying. Convincing you to buy a useless product is a form of indirect hypnosis where though you are not placed into a subconscious state, you end up in a hypnotic state with the salesperson's talk and mannerisms.

This proves that the main thing that is needed in controlling another person or hypnotizing them is by having confidence in yourself. However this does not mean that it is possible for you to go up to a prospective subject and declare that you are a powerful hypnotist who has the power of hypnotizing them. They are sure not going to believe you when you say this. Though you should be confident enough to hypnotize a person, you also need lots of social proof of your caliber as a hypnotist.

This social proof is proof that states that you are a hypnotist where people know who you are, and have heard about what you enjoy doing. Remember, people tend to listen and believe people they know who have had experiences with you. So if you can get people to get to publicize the fact that you are a hypnotist, this will help you greatly in the long run.

So now if you look at hypnotism, you realize that there is basically nothing magical with hypnotism. It is basically the confidence of the hypnotist and you, the subject that helps the hypnotist into hypnotizing you by submissing yourself into the wonderful world of hypnotism.

You have to start by focusing all of your attention to a point that is located above eye level and then start taking deep breaths while saying 'relax' to yourself repeatedly. When breathing out, you have to imagine that with your breathing out, all the bad air in your body is expelled, to be replaced with nice and clean air when breathing in.

Keep your eyes closed, and focus on the few sounds you hear around you like the outside wind or rain on the windows. In the meantime, be aware of your physical body and its feelings like your skin temperature or your body weight on the chair or bed. This is when you start getting relaxed, and start descending into your subconscious mind.

Start imaging you entering a beautiful garden or some other place you find pleasure in like the beach or park. Imagine that each step you take to reach this destination or goal, you find that your worries start to leave you gradually. More of positive thoughts cross your mind to fight against your fear and negative thoughts as you go down steps to reach your destination.

This is when you get relaxed in both mind and body, and should start repeating your suggestions to yourself and your subconscious mind. After three repetitions, take a short break to imagine your life once your fear is eradicated. Once this is done, you climb the steps, telling yourself that you will reach the top refreshed, awake and fear-free.

So you see, self hypnosis is not a difficult thing to accomplish as anyone can practice self hypnosis, with practice. Though you will not realize its effects immediately, with practice, you will trust yourself and your subconscious mind in making all the required changes in your life.

You have a choice between psychiatrists or health practitioners who include hypnosis as a part of their practice and hypnotists who use hypnosis for their healing prowess. Though most licensed professionals are highly qualified, this is not always true with hypnosis. This is because in hypnosis, a licensed professional has to be both certified in hypnosis and have a license. So the hypnotist you choose should be certified by a recognized institution, while having at least 100 hours of training and not just have attended a weekend seminar.

It is also advantageous for you to approach a hypnotist who is also a certified Regression practitioner as most of the time; your issue will be related to some incident that is rooted with past experiences. So it is only by regression to those experiences will you be able to heal the emotional issues as required.

Most certified hypnotists have no or little training in regression work; so the most qualified hypnotist to help solve your problem would be one who is a qualified hypnotist, who is both a certified hypnotist and a certified Regression practitioner. Besides considering the qualifications of the hypnotist, you have to also take the experience of the therapist in your area of need, into consideration.

Find out how long they have been in full time practice, their specialties, how many clients they have treated and how many of them were successful in their endeavors and if the therapist is experienced enough to handle the problem you are going through. Also find out what the law is like regarding hypnotherapy in the state because the hypnotist should practice in strict conformity with the law. Be careful of those who go beyond their limits in their practice.

Then of course, once all these points are cleared, you have to decide if you are comfortable with the hypnotist that you approach. There is no point in working with a highly qualified therapist if you have no rapport or trust with the person. This insecurity will only lead to interference in your therapy.
