How to Use Self-Hypnosis

A Step-by-Step Guide

Think of self-hypnosis as relaxation time where you work on things that you want to change in your life. Your self-hypnosis session should last for about 20 minutes. First, you want to pick a comfortable and quiet place to sit or lay down. Next, you will want to close your eyes. Focus on your breathing by taking a few deep breaths and then, starting with your head and working down, relax every part of your body.

The next part is known as the induction and should take about 5 minutes. Visualize yourself in a relaxing place. Incorporate your five senses. What do you see, hear, smell, feel, and taste? Spend some time focusing on this place. This will help you relax.

Next is the deepening. You will focus on an object moving down and as this object moves down, you will become in a more deeply relaxed state. For example, you can imagine the sun setting or imagine yourself walking down a flight of stairs. You will want to count down from 10 to 1 and focus on becoming more relaxed. This step will help you reach a trance state where your focused attention is on your subconscious mind.

The next part you will focus on is called the script. The script is where you focus your increased concentration on affirmations and suggestions on whatever you wish to focus on. You can focus on anything! Basically, anything you want to work on whether it's eating healthier, becoming a happier person, or stopping smoking, hypnotherapy will help you reach your goals.

The last step is trance termination. You will end your self-hypnosis session by counting from 1 to 3. You will want to slowly count up and focus on becoming more alert with each number.

I first became interested in astral projection when I was fifteen years old. I was in military school and I became fascinated with the idea of "traveling" to places I couldn't normally go to.

What is astral projection? It's defined as is a paranormal interpretation of an out-of-body experience achieved either awake or via lucid dreaming or deep meditation.     Steve, I am not sure about putting hypnosis on the energy work group page. I have mixed feelings about it. Maybe it is because of my craniosacral work approach where I try not to be efferent in my approach, but let the person's energy field (not a good descriptive word) lead the session. I see hypnosis as more suggestive, even if the suggestions mean well. I am going to review the entire energy group site in a little while. I find that the affirmation format is a superficial one, and that we have much more to learn about it. What's going on in the unconscious comes from both the inside and the outside. Awareness of it is very healing, but I don't see that you can arbitrarily replace negative with positive. It it does go to the core of seed-thought or feeling, then it is a superficial or temporary fix. I highly recommend the work of Charles Ridley at http://dynamicstillness.com. He cuts to the chase of consciousness that goes to the "place" of no words, no intentions....
