About Hypnotism
In modest terms, hypnosis is only a state of increased suggestability: a situation in which we are more likely to be able to receive the suggestions of another person than we are without the condition of hypnosis. Although all that we learn ultimately reaches the subconcious mind, the hypnotic condition is a much more direct and effectual way of reaching a target. A suggestion, once received and admitted by the subconscious mind, is unconsciously and uncritically acted upon - as long as it continues in effect.
In recent years, hypnosis has been commonly used by medical practitioners as a support in medical practice and psychotherapy. Hypnosis is also used in some criminal examinations, to help suspects to recollect events they might otherwise not remember.
