Diabetes and Hypoglycemia Treatment

Hypoglycemia treatment

Treatment for hypoglycemia or diabetes is relatively easy and means you have to eat or drink something that has a lot of glucose, which is easily absorbed. Non-fat milk and fruit juice are good sources or you can take glucose tablets.

Treatments can involve an injection of glucagons, which causes glucose to be released from glycogen stores in the liver.

 Hypoglycemia treatment+iv

If you become unconscious, have a seizure, or in an altered mental state so that it is not possible for you to given oral glucose, then paramedics or hospital staff can give treatment+iv by administering a solution of dextrose and saline by establishing a central or peripheral IV line.

If you wonder what happens if you go into hospital, there is no need for concern, as there is a strict protocol as to how staff should treat hospitalized patients using insulin and they must ensure you have access to the appropriate form of glucose at all times. In the case of pediatric nursing any episode of hypoglycemia will be discussed with the diabetes healthcare team.

Hypoglycemia diet pregnacy

If you are worried about Hypoglycemia what to eat during pregnacy, this is understandable as low blood sugar reactions affect the fetus's brain, as it is the organ, which uses the most glucose. It is always best to discuss active hypoglycemia with your gynecologist, and a dietician, especially as the hormones of pregnancy are known to cause gestational diabetes.
