HERE'S WHAT I THINK
It's I Could NOT Care Less
In the U.S., everybody -- to a person, it seems -- gets this wrong. The cliche ought to be "I could NOT care less". Alas, everyone says the nonsensical "I COULD care less".
Cliches are the laziest form of communication, but we all use them. If you are going to employ a cliche, at least say it correctly.
"I could care less" means you actually care about something. If you disagree, well I could NOT care less.
If anyone ever said it sarcastically, then "I could care less" would be correct. Nobody ever does.

If you do NOT care about something, don't say with no emphasis, "I could care less." I'll just stare at you, confused.

I Could Care Less, or This Is Silly, or WHA?
KimGiancaterino says:
I'm probably guilty of this myself on occasion, even though I know it's grammatically incorrect. Still, I'm surrounded by friends who say things like 'irregardless' and 'chester drawers.' Sometimes you have to just laugh and let it go.
