Description of the i-gotU GT-120 USB GPS Travel Logger

The i-gotU GPS logger is a very small*, stylish device that makes it easy to:

Export your photos and route to Flickr, Picasa and Google

*It weighs less than 1 ounce and is 1 3/4" tall x 1 1/8" wide x 1/2" deep.

What comes in the package

igot-U data logger (rechargeable via USB cable)

First things First

2. Click User Guide to see the on-line help (Note: you will see the below picture followed by some detailed instructions)

3. Charge i-gotU via USB. Before the first usage, please charge for 4 hours. It only takes 2 hours to charge for normal use.

4. Go to outdoor with clear sky. Turn on the device by pressing the button for 1.5 seconds. i-gotU starts searching satellites.

5. Red and Blue LEDs blinks at the same time when a location is logged.

6. Stop recording by pressing the button for 1.5 seconds.

7. Connect the device to PC. Follow the instructions of software to create Travel Blog.

What else do I need to know?

Like the AMOD AGL3080, the i-gotU receives its time from satellites, so you'll want to make sure that your computer time and camera time are correct, especially if your trip is in a different time zone.

If the time is off, the @trip software makes it super easy to adjust your photos to your tracks.

Unlike the AMOD AGL3080, where you have to press and hold the power and mark buttons, changing the logging time is done through the software, and it is as easy as clicking on a couple of buttons.

With the AMOD AGL3080 there are 2 ways you can clear the log. One way is by moving the .log file to your computer (right click and drag on the file and select move), the other is by pressing the buttons in a certain sequence/length of time.

With the i-gotU there are also 2 ways to clear the log, both are with the software.

When transferring a log file to your computer, you can also choose to clear the device from the same screen.

The second way to clear the log file(s) is to click on the Hardware Settings icon.

Then click on Reset and next. Just follow the directions to complete the task.

My experiences

I installed the software/driver on 3 different computers. Windows Vista, Windows XP SP2 and Windows XP SP3.

* The software and drivers installed without any problems on the machine with Windows Vista.

* With XP SP2 and SP3 I got a message that the software did not pass the Windows Logo testing. Just click on "Continue Anyway" and the driver/software finishes installing.

* The first time I tried to connect the logger to either of the Windows XP machines the software didn't notice that the device was plugged in - the device was plugged into the port where I initially installed the software. All you have to do is plug it into another USB port, Windows will grab the driver info (only needs to do it once, unless you plug it into any other USB port at a later date) and then you're good to go. I haven't had any problems since then with the computer or software recognizing the unit.

* Be patient!! Make sure both red and blue lights are flashing, otherwise it will show that you started farther along your trail than when you actually started.

In closing

I can't say enough good things about this data logger.

9.5/10

* I love the small size and weight.
* I really love that it is rechargeable...no more buying batteries.
* The blue gel holder fits perfectly on my camera strap, and for the most part I forget I even have it when walking and taking pictures.
*The extensive help files and website are above and beyond the norm.

The only "con" I have with this device is that it is hard to see the lights out in the daylight. On the upside, when I have it out camping with me and I'm in the RV, the satellites are still able to find it when I'm inside.

I wish that I would have known about i-gotU GT-120 before I went to Palau earlier this year, I could have used it on the many boat rides we took. I never took the AGL3080 out for fear of it getting wet.

If you are just getting into geotagging your photos, or want to use it to track your workouts/other outdoor activities, I highly recommend this data logger. It's easy to use and the included software just rounds out an already great product.

Next Squidoo lens will be about the software and using the a-trip website.
