I Hate Dogs
Ranked #1,351 in Pets & Animals, #36,187 overall
ARE DOGS MAN'S BEST FRIEND? I SAY NO!
Well, this is going to make me popular! I hate dogs.
Ever since I was a child, I have been terrified of dogs, they are just so unpredictable. Dogs have plagued my life from the pram when I was pounced on by a large Alsatian to the present day when I had a chunk bitten out of my bottom by an over excited Labrador.
Apart from the dogs that work at sniffing out drugs, helping the blind or can intercept land mines what is the actual point of dogs as pets?
Why do people have to own dogs? With all the cleaning up, feeding and picking up of their messes, what can someone actually get out of having a dog as a pet? You have to train them to behave and give them attention, what's the fun in that?! Dogs may be man's best friend, but they aren't mine!
So, this debate is here for you to sound off, tell me the answers to these questions please! Or agree with me! Please just don't get abusive.
PLEASE NOTE!
I do not wish any dogs harm, I am not completely soulless!
WHY DO I HATE DOGS?
-
Dogs smell. Their odour gets into everything, if you own a dog your house will smell, even if your home is spotlessly clean, a visitor will smell your dog in seconds of coming through the door.
-
Dog poops are gruesome. The stink of dog poo is not easy to disguise. And many owners don't pick it up either, making life unpleasant for anyone else walking in that park, field or road. It isn't the dog's fault; it's got to do what it has got to do. But if you own a dog, take responsibility and for goodness sake bag it and bin it. Yes that's a horrid task to perform, but more fool you for owning a dog in the first place.
-
Dogs bark. Not a nice sound, not cute at all.
-
They have sharp teeth. That bite.
-
The slobbery licking is repulsive. Yuk, and the ones that have the drool hanging from their mouths. If you are an owner who kisses their dog on the lips, then I think you are very very wrong.
-
The jumping up, the bouncing and the running. Absolutely terrifying.
-
This is the main reason why I don't like dogs: owners expect everyone else to love their pooch as much as they do. We have to be tolerant of their hairy excited animal bounding up to us in the park, frightening our children and sticking their noses in our crotches. I like to go running, but each time I go I have to navigate the dogs. I hate dogs, but they just love me! I am a dog magnet, they smell the fear and seek me out! I think many owners forget that only they know their dog, it could be the soppiest dog in the world but we do not know this and I am going to wary of anything that runs up and rugby tackles me when I go running.
-
And finally, DON'T BRING YOUR DOG TO WORK!!!
YOUR TURN! DOG LOVER OR DOG HATER?

I am so sick of dogs. You can never let a dog become dominant over you. People should get guinea pigs, not dogs. I especially hate Chihuahuas. How can a dog that small be so aggressive? Guinea pigs don't need to be potty trained or annual rabies shots. Dogs are extremely overrated.

I can't say that I hate them but I am really fearful of them, and not just for myself but for my family as well. I was actually going to buy a dog but then I started looking at the dog bite pictures on google and some are BRUTAL - especially of the girl who got the upper right side of her face ripped up ! Yeah some people say that not all dogs are bad 'blah, blah, blah' but there is ALWAYS a risk (no matter how well trained a dog is) that a dog will maul you.
How many more innocent people have to die because people can't find companionship and love in other people?
A 'best friend' does not turn into a WORST enermy so quickly.

Validation at Last ! As a kid, I had my arm chomped by one resembling the picture above. They are a nuisance and a hazard to friends, family, and service people. ( I used to deliver mail)The only thing as grotesque as a dog is a dog-lover - particulary the owners of those which have bitten, threatened, and terrorized me. They get offended when asked to please keep it inside, fenced, or leashed."My dog doesn't bite -how dare you tell me to lock him/her up" .

It's nice to see that there are other people out there who think like me. I too had a terrifying expirience with a dog when I was a child and have loathed the filthy creatures ever since.
What I like is how owners always have to talk / yell at their stupid mut. "Fido, sit down," "Fido shut up," "Fido come here". Nine times out of 10 the mut just keeps doing whatever, so don't try to tell me he's "trained" to do those commands. Gawd, it's not like he can understand english language.
I was over a firends the other day, and another visitor had to bring her big ugly dog. The thing ran around junping on everyone, knocking things over, just being a general pain in the ass. Finally the dam thing was running circles around the room for no reason. She proceded to yell at it, "Sit down" 15 or 20 times, all of which didn't even phase the mut. I just wanted to yell, "He can't #%&^# understand you, so just shut up, get off your lazy ass and drag him outside where he belongs."
Another thing I just love, and this one really gets me, is when people start treating their dam dog like a kid. Some of them even go as far as to refer to their dog as their "kid." The Christmas card photo with the dog(s) is always good for a laugh. Give me a break. This one giri I knew has a f-ing birthday party for her dog. She decorated the house, baked a cake and wrapped up presents for it. What a nut-job.
Another guy and his GF got a dog recently and hosted a freaking party and demanded everyone come to see their new dog. Make me sick.
I too don't wish any physical harm to dogs, as they are a living thing, and I know they mean the world to a lot of their owners, so I try to be understanding. I just wish they (dog owners) wouldn't act so abnoxious and realize that not everyone likes you "creature."

Yes thank you for understanding, btw i have to live with 3 dogs and it sucks, with a roomate thats a dog lover, i absolutly hate it here where i live because its a dog neiborhood. thats why im leavin to a place where there are no dogs allowed, or any animal thats like it. people who "love" dogs don't have a life because they sit there high on drugs saying i love you!!! to a freakin dog? i mean its so stupid, and retarded. people need better lives who absolutely LOVE dogs! TRUTH IS DOGS create disturbance, and ARE PEACE DESTROYERS!!! i try to get peace in my room but the sound of the dogs bark just destroys my peace or it just ruins it. i wish there was a place on earth where there are a million no dog signs, i will be happy forever!

I am in complete agreement. Dogs are a nuisance but they would NOT be if owners really took their responsibility seriously. I may not want to keep a dog ever but i respect others rights to keep one. I dislike that dogs are naturally filthy animals that are always drawn to filth, they drool, shed and are really needy and time-consuming. However dogs can be trained so that they are tolerable members of society. Mass media has made people believe that a dog is a necessity in every home so people rush to get one. The cuteness wears off when the animal does what comes naturally to it, being an animal. People later discover that the dog is too much and throw it to live in the yard where it barks up a storm and ruins neighborhood peace, or they dump the animal on streets where it becomes a real nuisance. All these TV shows and films drill into peoples heads that dogs have all these super-human abilities and training is a breeze. These people get the dog and their bubble of the perfect animal is burst and they have no time to train it rendering it a huge public nuisance. The animal can be trained and maybe if people stopped humanizing the dog and actually were responsible owners who could see clearly that the dog is not a child or extended family but is instead an animal that has animal needs that the owner is responsible for providing, then we would see far fewer neurotic animals that don't infringe on our rights for peace and space. The animal is not at fault but the people who think it's the animals God given right to ruin other peoples days. Please train your animals and then far fewer people will hate them. i think hatred towards dogs is misguided, the hate should be targeted t irresponsible owners like those who think have a dog roam loose in a neighborhood and ruin other peoples gardens, produce patches and growling at neighbors is fine and dandy.
IT'S NOT THE ANIMAL BUT THE IMBECILES OWN THEM WHO ARE AT FAULT.
I've seen well trained dogs and they are a pleasure to be around however in my case that is only two and the remainder 100 are a nightmare to be with.
What peeves me off the most is that dog fanatics can go as far as comparing dogs to children. Dogs are animals, get it through your thick skulls! And then i am revolted by people who utter nonsense like 'If you don't like my dog, i don't like you' OR 'People who don't like dogs are untrustworthy'. Where do these dummies get these myths from? These are myths just like the 'dogs give unconditional love' myth. And just because i dislike ONE animal, i am banded together with the group that hates all animals and for disliking ONE animal, apparently i am cruel. To all those who say 'if you dislike dogs then you are untrustworthy'. Where do you come up with this nonsense from? I dislike them because they are naturally filthy and if owners don't tend to them they stink to high heaven. I don't like most dogs because they lack training. This does not make me look like an untrustworthy person but as someone who wants their space respected and someone who disdains irresponsible owners. How being trustworthy or not came into the equation, we will have to ask the fanatics.
Bottom line. You bought the animal, you are responsible for it so put in the effort of training it and respect other humans around you who want their space respected by your chosen animal. Don't allow your animal to infringe on other peoples rights of a safe, peaceful and clean neighborhood. And just because you love your animal and all its defects, doesn't mean others should be forced to.

Dogs rule! You say ..."they are cute, but then they grow up...." If that is a problem, then get yourself a small dog like a Yorkie or a Chihuahua. Mine is only 3 lbs. and she's all grown up. I love dogs. They love you unconditionally...no matter what. You wake up looking like Freddie Krueger and your mutt doesn't care. Loves you the same. Hooray for dogs!!

dogs are awesome! I am pretty certain that not all dogs smell, and if dogs poops are gruesome yours are too, not all dogs bark, they have sharp teeth to eat fool, and not all bite, that slobbery licking is cute in some ways, jumping up and running means they are excited and happy, but then again not all dogs are as energetic and im sure they would not be happy to see you. And I am a dog owner and do not expect you to love her as much as I do. Not every dog goes around purposely trying to ruin your day. go dogs woot woot! :)

Personally if you don't like dogs (or are afraid like you) that is fine by me. Personally I find dogs to be better companions that most people (especially people like you!). I live in the country and I have lots of dogs. They guard the house and keep the wild critters off my place.
Personally I find many peoples kids to be very annoying and there are no stores or restaurants that prohibit kids.
Just my opinion!

- I am soooo glad I am not the only dog hater!! I hate the look I get when I say something about NOT liking dogs.. It's like they think I have something wrong with me.. I used to love dogs and had amazing patience for them... now that I have a home, kids and a husband..a stupid dog is just TOO much work.. They smell bad, have horrible gas, the beg and drool and shed! My husband tells me "but no matter how much you ignore them, they are always there for you.. It's unconditional love." ... It still doesn't matter to me! I don't like dogs!! There is nothing appealing about having one anymore... Maybe the ONLY reason is that it makes me feel safe when no one else is home and I have a huge rottweiler wandering around but other than that.. I have no love for our dog.. I was hoping the animal would have grown on me... but after two years... no love. only dislike after seeing all the ruined screen doors and scratched wood around the windows... I hate they it barks at the stupidest stuff... actually, I hate that it barks at all.
Severe dog lovers annoy the hell out of me.. The ones that treat dogs like humans and expect you to treat them like that as well.. I HATE when dogs beg and jump up on me and their owners say NOTHING!! It's sooooo gross! Yes, I can safely say I am a hater of dogs!! and it's good to know that I am not the ONLY one!! Thank you for starting the thread! I thought something may have been wrong with me! I would much prefer a cat!! so much more independent and way less filthy!

- Dog lovers are like Jesus freaks except their unbridled devotion is to a shedding, shitting, biting, smelly four legged noisemaker. Dogs can do no wrong in their eyes; even when they keep the whole neighborhood awake or rip a little kids face off.

- I don't hate dogs in the slightest. I'm just overwhelmed by them because I don't know what to do around them. And dogs seem like the one pet where people expect you to speak to them in that baby tone of voice, telling them how great they are. I feel weird doing that...
People can agree with this next part on pretty much any animal. What bothers me the most is people who get on their high horse (high Wolfhound?) about dogs. They act like dogs are these almighty deities....dogs are amazing, they have loved and served man forever, but it's a little over the top when you treat them like kings while treating other animals like vermin....it's even worse when you insist on dressing dogs up in ridiculous costumes. It brings a whole new meaning to the term animal cruelty. :p
So, I don't hate dogs. I just hate the people who insist I put on my shades to shield my eyes from the pristine perfection of dogs whenever one comes by.

- I agree, dogs are awful pets. No other animal comes with the plethora of behavioral problems dogs do. You never hear anyone say 'there are no bad cats/hamsters/rabbits, just bad owners', only dogs. Dogs are unpredictable, aggressive, ugly, noisy, filthy. My partner had a dog and a cat when we met. Cat: no problem. Make sure the fountain has water, food in the bowl, good to go. The dog begs or trolls the house for food constantly, must wake up early, even on weekends and vacation to feed it, walk it daily (no matter what the weather is or if you're sick), can't go anywhere without dealing with the dog (take it with us, board it, hire someone to come over), it wants attention constantly, wakes me up at night clawing the carpeting or pulling the blanket off the bed, sheds horridly, needs its nails trimmed and files, constant brushing, stinks, eats catshit every chance it gets and then has horrible gas, shits like a horse, costs us $100 just for food. It's just a constant chore having a dog. Then there's always the neighbors dogs who try and attack this dog or just bark ALL night long. Dogs ruin everything.

- I'm a cat lover myself but all creatures are magical to me and so it is a pity that you can't enjoy one of them yourself. This fear is fixed relatively easily in therapy using hypnosis or EFT in combination and you may want to consider that as a positive response to a negative state at the moment, it will free you from an unhappy response. Best wishes, David

- I do love smaller dogs. I also think the law should be very strict with the laws concerning animals. People should not have to walk, jog, play in fear of animals on the loose. It should be a stiff fine without question. I just recently lost my maltese (9 yrs old) to cancer, but the dog I had before that was a poodle who was eaten by the neighbors pit bull. That dog ate through my poodles intestines in a matter of seconds. It was horrible. We have had many, many people get attacked in our nearby towns because owners are NOT responsible pet owners. That is not okay with me, but I still love little dogs.

- I love to walk alone and on my hikes I always have trouble with loose dogs. On the outskirts of towns, when you pass farms, or just owners who let their dogs run free in the woods. It's just dangerous. I always carried a stick and my idea was to kick a dog when he attacked me. Be coincidence however I found a far better weapon. I was walking on wet ground and I took a wooden stick from the forest and sharpened a point on it with my pocketknife. Later that day I was attacked by a big black dog. But I used the stick as a spear and held it before me. The dog could not pass the point, he jumped around, tried to get behind me, but all in vain. He couldn't jump at me either without killing himself. Then I punched him a few times, and that really hurt him, and he ran off. So: the "spear" is a superior weapon against dogs ! Make one from your walking stick.
