America Loved Lucy

I Love Lucy aired from 1951 until 1957 on CBS. The series won over 23 Emmy nominations, 5 Emmy awards and the George Foster Peabody Award.

Ricky Ricardo was a $150 a week band leader at the Tropicana. His wife, Lucy, was a ditsy redhead who couldn't stay out of trouble. The Ricardos rented an apartment from their best friends, retired vaudevillians Fred and Ethel Mertz. The four together were comedy magic.

"I Love Lucy" quickly became "can't miss" entertainment for the millions of Americans who had just bought their first TV sets. It has remained popular through the magic of reruns.

Anything associated with "I Love Lucy" is collectible, and autographs are no exception.

The I Love Lucy show debuted in 1951 and ran for 6 seasons. It was based on a comedic red-headed housewife, Lucy, and her Cuban American bandleader husband, Ricky, played by Desi Arnaz. Neighbors Fred and Ethel Mertz, played by Bill Frawley and Vivian Vance, add to the antics, as the four characters get into a new pot of trouble each episode.

I Love Lucy was produced by Desilu Productions, a company owned by real-life couple Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. It was one of the first TV shows to be filmed using three 35mm cameras, producing a sharper image than most of the other shows at that time. It was the first show to use the technique with a live studio audience.

Lucy and Desi decided to shoot fewer episodes after 1957 and did a series of 1 hour specials, including a new guest star each week. These specials are now collectively known as seasons 7, 8, and 9 and are at Collecting-Celebrity Autographs.com.

I Love Lucy won Emmys for Best Situation Comedy in 1953 and 1954. Lucille Ball won an Emmy for best Comedienne in 1953. In addition, the show was the number one most popular show on TV four out of its six seasons.
