Squidoo is Loveable!
I fell in love with Squidoo the moment I stumbled upon it.
And then, this past June, I heard Seth Godin speak about Flipping the Funnel at eBay Live in Boston. I was completely enamored with his bathtub plunger story (oh yeah...and all the other great marketing stuff)! I also had the great fortune to meet him in person and suffer my first experience with being star struck (not so great - I couldn't shut up!). So...it didn't take long for me to get hooked on Squidoo and start lenses on all sorts of things!
Finally! I have one place to stuff all those things I think about every day and feel passionate about. Sometimes I'm actually an expert in what I'm writing (or at least I think so!). Othertimes, I'm just sharing things that fascinate me. Squidoo is fun, fast and makes your musings look great - even professional if you want them to!
So, my I Love Squidoo lens is dedicated to all those things that I love about Squidoo! Every time I work on one of my lenses I discover something else that's cool or fun or interesting!
P.S. I have to give credit to Concept Art for the little squid in love image. I don't know the artist but I LOVE the artwork!
Channel Your Dr. Seuss!
I love Squidoo because it sounds like a Dr. Seuss rhyme:If sir, you sir, choose to do sir,
Then sir, you sir, should squidoo sir!
Hmmm...mebbe I may have read too many Dr. Seuss books these past few years!
Start Your Day with Funny Words!
"... It seems to fill my head with ideas -- only I don't know exactly what they are." JabberwockyI love Squidoo because of all the great words! In our family we make up all sorts of words and nicknames like ninnles, roonis, dibbins, count zestula, minkie monster.
The way words are put together can really give you a great belly laugh! Take the word squid. I actually think this word is really funny. We call the kids squids when they're in the tub. When someone's acting dorky they can be a squid. And deep sea squids are funny looking.
Add the sound "oo" to squid and you get another funny sounding word, Squidoo. When I first started telling my 13 year old son about Squidoo, my 4 year old daughter caught hold of the word and ran around the house giggling for days every time she said it!
Get on Squidoo and all the security words are hysterical! They sound just like the family nicknames and words that we make up. We've even added a few to our family repertoire. Here are some favorites:
goopmeow
geeksquid
chathead
zoomwoot
megatwit
squidbot (okay...that's just too funny...picture that one!)
So...start your day out on Squidoo and get some good chuckles!
Picture credit goes to Barry Warsaw because this kid's hair and laugh is awesome!
Be Your Own Master
I love Squidoo because I finally have a title worthy of envy: LENSMASTER.LENSMASTER...rolls off the tongue nicely, doesn't it?
I've always wanted title worthy of envy - like a superhero name. Sometimes "mom" doesn't cut it - even though it SHOULD be a superhero name!
When my 2 brothers were little they were always running around as He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. I was already 24 at the time so it didn't feel right wanting to be a Master of the Universe...but secretly, I wanted to be one!
I used to really embarrass them (good practice for becoming a mom later). I would run up to them, stick out my fist and shout "Wonder Twin Powers Activate!" Talk about being a squid. First of all, they pointed out, I had the wrong show. Second, the Wonder Twins were squids.
Sheesh. Anyway, if you're in need of a envy-worthy title, start a Squidoo lens and grab the title LENSMASTER!
Great Squid Art Swims on the Internet
I love Squidoo because I just found a great pool (no pun intended) of squid art out there!I love art, abstract art, monster art, art dolls...you name it. I'm going to set up a lens about all of those at some point.
I was so excited to find loads of squid art when I was writing this lens! Here are some favorites:
Hatsuko Mitsumori over at Deviant Art. I have to give credit for her artwork on this module.
The Sharing Squid by Eden Carnes, aka mammalfeathers, over at Deviant Art.
And I absolutely LOVE art dolls! Check out this amazing Plush Squid by HezaChan at Deviant Art.
And, of course, always in search of a good chuckle, I bumped into a wide variety of squid art at "Squid" the Laughing Squid's blog. This is an amazing creative tank (no pun intended) of art, culture and technology
from San Francisco and beyond!
Squidoo Keeps Me Sane
I love Squidoo because it keeps me sane!Being an artist and entrepreneur, I have no problem coming up with inspiration. In fact, it's almost a curse. I get so many ideas every day that I can get easily overstimulated and achieve absolutely NOTHING.
And let me tell you, nothing sucks more than having visionary abilities and then getting so overwhelmed that you don't implement a single idea.
Honestly, Squidoo is the answer to a two year BEG that something be available for my type-AAA neurons. Websites, online stores and blogs have their homes and are totally necessary but I needed something fun, fast, creative and with a community vibe that I could connect to.
Now I have a place to brain dump all those juicy ideas and projects! I still might wander around and bump into things but at least I have places to put all those thoughts. Because, when your brain is busy firing off creative inspirations, you gotta move on them before the motivation fades. Squidoo lets me set up a lens, post my stuff and play around while I'm "working" in less than an hour. Talk about immediate gratification!
OASIS Connect
I get to be an expert!
I love Squidoo because I get to show off my business OASIS Connect!I started OASIS Connect early in 2007 with my business partner, Diane Falvey. We help online businesses and existing eBay businesses get set up on eBay the right way. Because these days...eBay should be a part of every online business's strategy.
Diane and I are both entrepreneurs and artists and have been successful with our own stores Iris and Lily and Pig and Panda. Last year, we had people and businesses approach us for consulting but we didn't want to take on the work as individuals. So, we decided to join forces ("Wonder Twin Powers Activate!") and create OASIS Connect to help people. It's a great fit for us because, in addition to all the other pies we have our fingers in, we are passionate about the internet and helping people be successful entrepreneurs!
With Squidoo, we're able to promote OASIS Connect through our OASIS Squidoo lens!
Ladies Who Launch
I get to be an expert again!
I love Squidoo because I get to show off my business Ladies Who Launch-PDX!My OASIS Connect business partner, Diane Falvey and I are both leaders for Ladies Who Launch. Diane heads up the Long Island territory and I head up the Portland, OR territory.
Ladies Who Launch is the coolest, most chic and professional women's entrepreneur organization on the planet! Women around the globe are embracing creativity and entrepreurship as a lifestyle. It's such an amazing movement and the networking opportunities are out of this world!
With Squidoo, I'm able to promote Ladies Who Launch-PDX and our active members through our Ladies Who Launch-PDX Squidoo lens. This is great exposure for all the ladies in our Portland territory as they launch their businesses and projects!
Dark Chocolate Rocks!
I AM an expert on dark chocolate...YUMMMM!
I love Squidoo because I get to eat and talk about dark chocolate whenever I want to!Finally, I can wax poetic about the joys of dark chocolate and stop boring my family! Actually, I think they're secretly miffed that I'm snarfing all the dark chocolate. But really, it's all in the name of research!
My goal is to travel the world and sample every fine dark chocolate there is to find. Right now, since world travel seems to be elusive, I've been traipsing around my hometown of Portland, OR in search of fine chocolate.
It hasn't been difficult at all! First of all, Portland is a big foodie town. We have amazing chocolate hot spots like:
Pix Patisserie
Alma Chocolate
Great Picks at Pig and Panda
