This lens made me cry. Being a mom is the hardest thing I've ever done...but by far the most amazing thing I will ever do in my whole life. It also makes me love and appreciate my own mother infinitely more! :)

I know my mother loves me more than anything but I had no idea how strong that feeling can be untill I became a mother. Mothers deserve everything but they only want to hear "I love you mum" Thank you, you made me cry.

Such a beautiful Lens, absolutely loved it! My mom (and I call her "mamochka" in Russian) also spent a lot of time when me and my sister were young to teach us how important it is to always care about your mother. Now not a day goes by without either me or my sister calling our mom just to tell her we love her.

What a wonderful lens, AJ! And a marvelous story - the one with your son leaving for his father's place. I don't know how I would have deal with it but I'm sure I wouldn't have been as wise as you were! You're a great Lady!

@Spook, well maybe most men are more into getting a tough tattoo that shows their love for mum than reading websites about mother love or poetry. But hey, there are always exceptions to the rule. Great lens and subject AJ.
  • Spook Aug 7, 2009 @ 7:34 am | delete
Just dropped by and noticed not many lads here. That surprises me, I always thought men had a special relationship with their Mothers and girls with their Father. Looks like I'm wrong again.

I love your lens about mothers and especially the nurturing nature we first know in life. You can really see this as a universal maternal energy. This just make Mother's Day so much meaningful and makes me want to send Mother's Day flowers to show the love, affection and make my mom feel even more special. Thank you so much for such a beautiful lens.
  • Squidster Apr 27, 2009 @ 3:33 am | delete
Beautiful lens, AJ! As a mom of 2 little boys I can truly appreciate the poems and quotes, but most of all thank you for sharing your personal stories. We're a restless family and already I dread the day when it is my little ones' turn to explore the world on their own. How lucky you were when your son returned home. You have raised some great kids! ^:)^

When I was born my parents named me, when I married I took my husband's lastname but when I gave birth I received the name most important to me, mom.
  • karen550 Apr 18, 2009 @ 10:10 am | delete
Love the poem. Love the lens. I have one son who is 11. As a single mom, we depend upon each other quite a bit, and with his father deceased even more so I suppose. But, I could only imagine how bad it would be if he grew up and decided to live overseas, but yes, letting go is part of loving.
  • divacratus Apr 17, 2009 @ 2:45 pm | delete
East or west, moms are the best. Where else can you find such unconditional love? My mom supports me in whatever I do. She's the only one who has never judged me for who I am. I can totally understand what you are trying to say in this lens even though I am not yet a mother myself. Beautiful!
  • Susan52 Apr 11, 2009 @ 9:42 am | delete
What a beautiful lens. I laughed and I cried. Sometimes I think of myself as the mother, but often I think about my mother and my role as daughter; I appreciate my mother so much. Your children are very blessed to have you!

  • lou16 Mar 5, 2009 @ 5:39 pm | delete
What a great lens AJ, it's always hard to let your children go, but I think it is important. My hubby had to go to NZ for work a couple of years ago and our daughter hadn't seen my folks (her only living grandparents) for nearly a year (she usually sees them a couple of times a year) so he took her over for a week and left her with them. They had a ball, but it was so lonely at home with just the dogs for company! My friends couldn't believe I let her go - but it's good for them to travel and know that you'll always be waiting for them when they come back......two years on she still talks about when she went to NZ all by herself (I think she forgets that her dad was on the plane both times with her!!)

Very sweet, my oldest daughter is spending a year with her father in Europe. I miss her very, very much but I'm proud of her for having the courage to go, for sticking it out, and for being an amazing kid.

I don't get to pick her up until August, but thank you for sharing your story to get me through the next few months.
  • Jewelsofawe Mar 4, 2009 @ 8:49 pm | delete
    Lovely lens!
  • JaguarJulie Mar 4, 2009 @ 4:05 pm | delete
Ah, how sweet is this lens! Mum's Day is just around the corner and my mum really likes to receive a good old-fashioned card -- nothing more, nothing less although I usually send her a care package. We visited her last year -- and tried to get her to become a Squidoo lensmaster then. Oh, isn't that a Gustav Klimt image of mum and child? I am a Klimt fan as well. Nice job!
  • ElizabethJeanAllen Mar 3, 2009 @ 5:18 pm | delete
We teach our children to stand and then to walk knowing that one day they may walk away. My sons are young adults now. They've chosen their paths, but I no longer worry about them walking away. A child raised with love will look to the future, but will not forget the past.
    Beautiful lens
