I Replaced My Old Paper Shredder with an Aurora Shredder

Ranked #2,382 in Computers & Electronics, #41,672 overall

Aurora AS810SD Paper Shredder Product Review

When my "light dity" paper shredder finally bit the dust, I replaced it with an Aurora Paper Shredder. Here's my product review of the Aurora AS810SD Shredder . (I keep two - one for everyday light use, and one for my business, which takes care of my more challenging shredding)

I found the Aurora shredder offered on Amazon at a really good price, considering it was advertised to be not only a document shredder, but also a credit card shredder and a CD shredder. While my old one had been a workhorse for years, it was never able to shred credit cards, and this feature alone excited me.

The Aurora Shredder was advertised as "Aurora AS810SD 8-Sheet Strip-Cut Paper/CD/Credit Card Shredder with Basket." 8 sheets at once! My old one handled only 4 when it was new, and just 2 later on. (I never lubricated my old one, which could have contributed to its problems)

I eagerly awaited the arrival of my new shredder. But, when it arrived, I was disappointed AT FIRST. Shortly, though, I was to discover that, not only was it NOT a bad purchase, it was even better than I had expected . . .

This a Great Little Shredder at a Great Price

And I got FREE Shipping, too!

This is a great little home paper shredder, at a great price. The 'basket' is small, BUT it makes a gread waste basket for our guest bath. AND the extension on the shredder lets me place the shredder head on a regular 13 gallon kitchen sized waste can. This means that I can shred more before having to stop and change bags. Not only that, but there is no necessity to buy yet another size of bags!

Aurora AS810SD 8-Sheet Strip-Cut Paper, CD and Credit Card Shredder Basket

Shred up to 8 sheets of paper at once, or a credit card, or a CD. Auto feature detects when paper is fed in, and begins the motor then. Pull-out extension on one side lets you place the shredder atop a larger canister than the one it comes with.

I LOVE the 'auto' feature. Just turn it on, and only when you feed paper into the slot does the shredding mechanism activate. When the paper is shredded, it deactivates. My old one didn't do that!

You MUST Have a Shredder

Why? Security! To guard against Identity Theft.

Given the opportunity, thieves WILL go through your trash.

Don't give them ANYTHING with identifying information on it. Shred all of your discarded documents! I even shred junk mail IF it has my name and address on it. The security of your information is more important than ever.

A shredder is a necessitiy to protect you from possible financial catastrophy at the hands of those bent on committing identity theft.

The Aurora Shredder Comes with a Bin

That is TOO Small

I was disappointed at first.

My old shredder's bin was small, but this new one was even smaller! You can clearly see the difference in this photo, with the new one on the left, and the old (black) one on the right.

I really thought I'd blown it by not taking better note of the bin size in the item's description.

But my chagrin was soon to turn to joy . . .

Aurora AS810SD Shredder has an Extender

and Fits on a Regular 13 Gallon Trash Can!

Thanks to the pull-out extender on the side of the shredder head, you don't have to use the tiny bin that comes with it. It can fit on a regular trash basket that uses 13 gallon bags!

This means:
1 - You don't have to stop shredding to change the bag as often.
2 - You can use the basket that came with it as a bathroom waste basket.
3 - You don't need special sized shred bags just for your shredder.

YIPPEE!

What an unexpected bonue - I now have a paper shredder head that fits on a trash can!

Does this Shredder WORK?

Does it perform adequately as a Home Shredder?

Yep. Sure does.
With my old shredder, you turned it on, and it started running away. This new one's motor activates when the paper goes in, and stops when shredding is done.

I tested it with a single sheet. Zipped right through. Then two - zip. It slows down a bit when four and eight sheets are fed in at once, as I expected. It produces ribbon shredding, not confetti or cross-cut shredding, but should be sufficient as a home shredder for discarded personal dociments and mail.

Yes, it DOES shred a credit card, just not into as many pieces as I would like, That's easily solved by feeding the pieces through again after the first pass, which is still easier than scissoring the card to death.

I have not yet had the opportunity to test its capabiity as a CD shredder.

Final assessment: A REALLY good buy for the casual or home user

More Recommendations

1) If you need a cross-cut shredder, or a heavier duty one than the one I bought, it seems to me that the Aurora products might be the way to go.

2) Do also purchase either shredder oil or lubricant sheets to prolong the life of your new shredder, cut down on dust, and help prevent conditions that can cause paper jams.

Wow! This does look like a great shredder! I have been so proud of my cross shredder because it will rip those credit cards to shreds, but I love the extender on this one. Must bookmark this for future purchases :)

Great information. When our existing shredder fails, we'll replace it with one of these.
