Ah, the dreams of Youth!
But after the passage of time, did we transform ourselves into our now distant dreams? Or did the raven of fate's beak peck us into a less fulfilling haunted today?

Or to put it another way
Did you end up being all you thought you'd be?
I remember a day at junior school - that's age 8-11 years - when our teacher went around the class asking us what we wanted to be when we grew up. Of course the girls wanted to be either nurses or ballerinas, and the boys wanted to be doctors or airline pilots! But what about me, what about ArtSiren? And more importantly, what about YOU?
But first, change can be good
The successes that changed and succeeded again!
So who are these celebrity career changers?
Do you know any famous career changers?

The Worst Gifts I Ever Received
-
Is it just me? Does everyone get awful gifts from time to time? I think my run of inappropriate, strange, bizarre, gifts started at quite a young age. My dear old Aunty Doll liked to give a 50p ($1) sellotaped to a small pot of Nivea...now don't get...

My Claim To Fame
-
Do you have a claim to fame, anything you have done to give you notoriety? Your claim to fame might be the result of having someone famous in the family, or as a friend, having met a famous person, or having taken part in a special event, appeared on...
ArtSiren wannabe...
...a 'mad' scientist
Did I get there? Yes! And when it's your job, all the long names disappear, and become abbreviations!
I used my artist's creativity in my profession, but it became somewhat misunderstood. So now, I'm hoping to follow in the footsteps of the famous - and probably many 'not-so-famous' - and starting over!
ShannonC wannabe...
...a 'rock star'
No, not that kinda rockstar!ShannonC says:
I wanted to study rocks, then I wanted to be a cartoonist... I do illustration now so close enough ;-) I also wanted to write books, and now I am writing one.
RichLeigh wannabe...
...a pro footballer
RichLeigh says:Funny you should list Gordon Ramsay there; when I was younger I always wanted to be a professional footballer and to play for Oxford United... Gordon Ramsay on the other hand DID play for Oxford, as a youth team player. Did I get there? Not at all, I never was very good at football!
Yeah, most people always talk about Ramsay at Glasgow Rangers. In fairness to him, I should also say that he didn't say 'meh' and change career. Rangers booted him out when he got a cartilage injury. Sorted him out though. Any good at cooking Rich? ;)
The_Homeopath wannabe...
...an animal 'helper'
The_Homeopath says:I wanted to be a Zoologist in Africa. I did study Zoology at the University but then got distracted by other interests. Now, I'm in holistic health but a lot of my clients are in fact, animals, so I guess it all comes back to you!
Poddys wannabe...
...someone who 'makes a difference in the world'
Poddys says:I always had the feeling that I was put here for a reason. But despite still feeling that there must be something more to my life yet to come, I haven't yet achieved it. My career peaked and is now over the hill, yet I still have that urge to do something really notable. 5***** for a wonderful lens, and thanks so much for featuring My Claim To Fame.
You've got pretty much the same ideal as me, then. We'll get there once we've each figured out what that 'notable' thing is.
Mulberry wannabe...
...a gymnastic reporter
Mulberry says:When I was 12 I dreamed of being a gymnast when I saw Olga Korbut (but it was too late already), by 22 I thought I would like to be a reporter but I was too close to graduation to change, by 30 I just wanted to make the world a better place and I'm still trying to figure out how I could do that.
Debnet wannabe...
...a CSI and midwife
Debnet says:I always wanted to be a forensic scientist, but never made it :( Then a midwife...ended up having babies but not delivering any :( Great lens...rolled it to my Family heirloom lens and thanks for featuring 'The Worst Gift I ever Received' :)
You're welcome Debbie! I'll be sure to check out your Family Heirloom lens when it's ready. It must be very rewarding having kids and nurturing them, though, so less of the sad emoticon! ;)
dc64 wannabe...
...a virtual astronaut
dc64 says:I wanted to be an astronaut because I loved astronomy and there weren't too many people up there in space (I'm a bit of a loner). But then, I found that I hate to fly, so I think I'll be an elf and live in the woods.
Seegreen wannabe...
...a high-flying photographer
Seegreen says:I wanted to be a pilot but when I found out that you needed perfect vision I was devastated. Never occurred to me at that age that I could still get my pilots licence. I also wanted to be an astronaut and a photographer for National Geographic.
"So Lensmasters, what's YOUR story?"
OK, your turn. Don't be shy!
What did YOU want to be when you were a kid?
Did you get there? If so, did you like it, or think 'meh,' and start over, like Gordon Ramsay? Are you still getting there? Hopefully, there will be some truly inspirational stories waiting to be told - and I'll feature them for you right here!
