The iPad will be released in the U.S. in March 2010, with the 3G iPad coming in one month later in April 2010. Canadians can get their hands on the Apple iPad too. Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Corp., announced on January 27th that Apple is in talks with Canada and other International countries to get deals on wireless network coverage. Steve Jobs said these deals should be completed by June 2010 April 2010, thus making the Apple iPad Tablet available in Canada as early as July 2010 April 2010!

Update! - iPad in Canada! Apple has announced the iPad will be released on April 3 in the US and in late April in Canada. This means that the iPad availability in Canada is as early as late May 2010!

- The Apple iPad works with any Bluetooth keyboard, not just the Apple Wireless Keyboard.
- The iBooks app reads any ePub-formatted eBook, not just commercial content purchased from Apple's iBookstore.
- The iPad works similar to an open file system allowing different apps to share files between them."You can easily share the documents you create in Pages in a few ways. Attach them to an email as Pages files for Mac, Microsoft Word files, or PDF documents. Or upload them to iWork.com public beta. And if someone emails you a Pages or Word document, you can easily import it into Pages for iPad, ready to review or edit." ~ Apple iPad Pages
- Accessibility-friendly:- You can still use the iPad if you have problems with vision or hearing. "VoiceOver speaks 21 languages and works with all of the applications built into iPad. Apple also enables software developers to create applications for iPad that work with VoiceOver." ~Apple iPad Accessibility
- Magazine Applications (Apps) such as the National Geographic will also be available for the iPad.
- "Fake-GPS" on WiFi models:- "iPad with Wi-Fi finds your location using known Wi-Fi hotspots, and Wi-Fi + 3G models use Wi-Fi, GPS, and cellular towers." ~Apple iPad Maps. Although the models without 3G cannot receive and send signals to cellular towers to allow for exact pinpointing of your location, the WiFi model of the iPad will be able to locate you using data from nearby WiFi Hotspots to get an approximate location fix. Of course it's not as accurate as GPS, but better than nothing!
- The iPad will support stereo Bluetooth output in iTunes so you can use your wireless headphones, car stereo gadgets and any other bluetooth devices you might have.
- A redesigned Apple Kindle app will be available for Kindle users. This new app has been specifically designed to fit the iPad screen and is an upgrade from the iPhone and iPod app. It will allow you to read your existing Kindle collection on the iPad and will have an interface similar to the Kindle, but on your iPad!
- Barnes and Noble have also designed an app specially for the iPad. This will allow Nook users to read their eBooks on the iPad, in a similar way to the above Kindle app.
- The $99 Battery Replacement Plan:- Similar to the iPhone Battery Replacement Plan (plus about $20), if you have a dead iPad battery, you can get a brand new iPad tablet by sending in your iPad to Apple. You will receive a refurbished iPad with a new exterior but the underlying product will have gone through the Apple FixIt process. Of course, you will have to have saved your date before sending the iPad in to Apple Canada.

Unfortunately, you will have to wait a few more days as Amazon.ca (the Canadian Amazon website) still has not listed the Apple iPad WiFi or the iPad 3G version up yet.

"April 24 is a Blackout Period in Canada" - Postponed
Although Apple is not known for having pre-orders available in Canada (iPhone launch in 2008 did NOT have a pre-order), it is known for holding blackout weekends for its biggest launches.
So when a memo was sent out to Apple employees in Canada this week that the weekend of April 24 was going to be a blackout period, (April 25 and April 26 are a Saturday and Sunday, respectively), it was a clear message saying "Brace yourselves for a million iPad-hungry Canadian customers". And yes, I realize Apple dreams big. That number is likely to be slightly smaller than a million.
This has yet to be confirmed by Apple so check back for an official announcement of the iPad in Canada, which is expected to be made before the iPad hits stores in US markets this weekend!
Note: Blackout Periods are days where employees are not allowed to take breaks or days off.
Update: (April 14) - Apple just announced the iPad international release has been delayed by one month due to increased demand in the US which impacted the international supplies. Thus the iPad is now set for a late May release in Canada (likely May 29) and you can pre-order an iPad in Canada on May 10. But remember, you can always get one shipped from the US from eBay or Amazon (listings posted on this page).
