The Last Man on Earth is Not Alone

Normally, I know all about movies coming out long before the trailers start showing up in the movie theater, but every once in awhile I'm in for a delightful surprise. I can't even remember what movie I went to see a few weeks ago, but I remember the trailer because I had no idea they were making another movie out of I Am Legend (one of my favorite stories) and the trailer made me want to stand up and start dancing around the theater in glee. It's a great trailer. It literally gave me goosebumps.

I cannot wait to see this movie!!

I Am Legend, by Richard Matheson

I Am Legend is set during the 1970s in Los Angeles. The main character, Robert Neville, is the last human being on earth after a plague has wiped out humanity -- leaving only Neville and the others who have mutated into vampiric creatures. Neville spends his days making repairs to his him and strengthening his defenses and then he goes out and kills vampires.

Unbeknowst to him, many of his victims are those who have been able to hold off the full effects of the virus and he is essentially committing murder on a daily basis.

Fan Made Trailers for the Will Smith movie

This is the first time I've come across this sort of thing. Trailers made for movies for which there is no official footage -- leaked or otherwise. It's a creative endeavor in which footage from other movies featuring the star are used, as well as footage from movies with the likeliest similar plots, to make the fanvid creator's vision of the upcoming movie.

This particular trailer borrows from zombie movies. As far as I know, I Am Legend will maintain the original plot and have vampires, not zombies, in it, but all the same, it's a pretty good effort and since I think this will be a very different vampire movie from the norm, it probably makes more sense to borrow from zombie flicks.

Previous screen versions of I Am Legend

Richard Matheson's novel, I Am Legend, has been adapted for the screen twice previously. Vincent Price starred in The Last Man on Earth in 1964 and Charleton Heston starred in The Omega Man in 1971. The Vincent Price movie is the better of the two and is quite close to Matheson's original storyline.
