Sustainable Performance Clothing

Let's talk about wool.

Let's talk about that silky-soft, all-natural revelation of a fiber. That constantly renewable, head-spinningly versatile and altogether unmatched material. It's more then just the best thing clothes could ever be made of: it's the temperature-regulating, anti-microbial masterwork of nature.

Now, we're talking about a material that's been around practically since people stopped living in trees, so you'd think it wouldn't have much new to offer. But you'd be wrong, my friend. Because if we know one thing about wool, it's that wool is always offering more. How do we know? Well, let's just say that wool is what we do.

With finer weaves, with improved designs, by pairing it off with complementary fibers, we're constantly pushing wool further. And it's constantly doing more.
We've been redefining wool for years. But like wool, we're really just getting started.

WOOL - what you need to know (if you already don't)

1) Wool is comparatively stronger than steel and can be bent 20,000 times before breaking.
2) Wool can absorb 30% of it's weight in water.
3) Wool is fire resistant.
4) In New Zealand, sheep outnumber people 10 to 1
5) Wool is naturally antimicrobial which means those bacteria that cause odor can't find a home in the wool fibers.
6)Wool is a renewable resource produced on family farms around the world. It is durable yet recyclable and biodegradable.

Zque & Ibex

Traceable Integrity in Ibex's New Zealand Merino Fiber

The Zque program has been developed to satisfy our expectations of the integrity of Ibex's Merino fabrics. This includes assurance that our production systems meet suitable standards for the stewardship of livestock, management of the environment and socially responsible practices, and that the resulting products are of the highest quality.

Specifically, Zque encourages that our fiber production is managed through systems that track enhanced animal welfare, environmental, social and economic values, and provides that extra bit of confidence and transparency of the quality and integrity of Ibex's New Zealand Merino fiber.

Organic Cotton

When is cotton sort of like wool?

When it's 100% organic cotton and SKAL certified, like the kind we use in our Organic T-shirts and a whole host of summer shorts and skirts. Because while we all know Ibex wool is the world's best sustainable fiber - being naturally renewable, totally biodegradable, and produced without harsh chemicals - eco-friendly organic cotton isn't far behind.

We'd like to teach our sheep to grow cotton out of their backs. Until then, though, organic cotton is a pretty nice alternative.
