Ibis are a group of long-legged water birds which live in colonies in coastal areas. They can be found living near both fresh or salt water. They can be found in the southern part of North American, Central American, the norther part of South American, in the Caribbean, Australia and parts of Africa.

There are many species of Ibis, including the scarlet ibis, the white ibis and the Australian ibis (which has a black head and white body).

The Egyptians associated the ibis with their god Thoth.
