Maybe these few simple facts can help out.

Some Basic Facts About Insomnia

No one is immune from the condition of insomnia, but there are some groups that seem to be more affected than others. Those in lower economic conditions seem to be more afflicted with sleep disorders. As well, men seem to be less adverse to sleep disorders. Mental problems can increase your likelihood of insomnia, as can stress, or being a chronic alcoholic.

How Bad Is Your Insomnia?

As with many things, there are a host of reasons for sleep disorders like insomnia. Some reasons are mental, some are medical, and some are your bodies reaction to the environment. Sometime insomnia will only last for a few days, and sometimes it can last for weeks, and even become chronic.

Some Basic Insomnia Cures

While counting sheep may seem a little comical, it's not without merit. Basically, what your trying to do is basically bore your brain into falling asleep. It's usually your brain that won't shut off for most insomniacs, so anything you can do to numb it (not alcohol) can help.

Deep breathing and relaxation may seem a little cliche, but they can help. Sleep is really just a form of deep relaxation, so physically helping your body get into that state, through deep breathing and mediation may get the ball rolling for you.

Mentally imagine your self in your favorite place. I know this one works for me. A pleasant place form your childhood, or even your last really relaxing vacation (hopefully you've had one you can remember) can help calm the body and spirit.

Control the stress and anger from your daily 9-5 life, and don't take it to bed with you. If you don't have good anger and stress management skills, then that may be part of your problem. A few classes could go along ways to a good nights sleep.

All Natural Cure

Sometimes soothing sounds in your room can be a huge help in getting you to a sound sleep. Here's the story of a guy who used just such a technique to cure a five year dependency on sleeping medication.
