Why I Use ICDSoft For Webhosting

Ranked #1,082 in Internet, #59,338 overall

Cheap, Reliable, Fast, and Good Tech Support

I've used ICDSoft to host all my websites, personal and professional, since 2003. It's the only service I know that keeps upgrading servers, features and security such that every time I reach about half my storage quota, they double it!

ICDSoft may not be the absolute cheapest webhosting service out there. But $72/year $5 for domain name registration is fairly cheap.

My site has only gone down once for a few hours since 2003. The rest of the time it's been fast and reliable. ICDSoft's features include everything I need: domain name registration, lots of subdomains, MySQL to run Wordpress blogs, anti-hotlinking tools, tons of space to host my own images and files, email and mailing lists, a sitebuilder with easy-to-use templates for people who don't know HTML, and much more.

What puts ICDSoft ahead of other hosting companies is their exceptionally helpful online tech support, which answers questions within fifteen minutes. They've gotten me off the hook as Mom's Unpaid Tech Support: now, she calls them! Their Online Documentation also helps you set up everything from Wordpress blogs to Drupal.

For as long as I've been an ICDSoft customer, it's been $6/month for a basic account, or $10/month for a business account. Every few years, they up the storage space on each kind of account. (When I started, it was something like 20MB and 100MB; at the time of writing this review it's 1GB and 50GB [Edit: upped to 100 GB in Jan 2012]).

If you're using ICSoft for blogs, image hosting, and file storage, I recommend an "Economy" account. You can upgrade later if need be.

If you're sharing music and videos, or have a site like a large online store that uses tons of bandwidth, then you need a business account.

Comparison With Hostgator and GoDaddy

Similar Webhosting Services

In all honesty, Hostgator and GoDaddy offer more storage space for the same price (but their domain name registration costs more). If you are happy with those services, I can't argue.

But if you're looking for an alternative to them because you want better customer service, I'd say ICDSoft. They've consistently gotten better -- even fanatical -- customer reviews than HostGator and GoDaddy for many years. (See the comments at the end of this why ICDSoft Doesn't Suck article for typical responses from longtime customers.)

Those who know me know that I only review products I like. Moreover, I wouldn't have recommended ICDSoft as a webhost to my Mom unless I was very, very sure of them. That recommendation has earned me mucho brownie points.

But for the sake of full disclosure: I get an affiliate commission if you sign up with ICDSoft through my links:
