Do you eat ice cream when it's cold outside?
Sometimes it's just too cold to eat ice cream.
I remember that I wanted a blizzard from Dairy Queen, but by the time I finally got out of the house it was -20F.
When I felt the cold air I decided that it was too cold to eat a blizzard outside.
Has it ever been to cold for you to eat ice cream?
Do you eat ice cream when it's cold outside? Is there a temperature where it's too cold to eat ice cream?

Frozen Yogurt, Ice Cream and Sorbet Experiements
aka Frozen Yogurt, Ice Cream and Sorbet recipes I've tried
My first experiement was with Coconut Sorbet. I didn't have the shredded coconut on hand, so I made the sorbet by dissolving 1 cup of sugar in can of light coconut milk and and 1 can of cocont milk.
The sorbet was light and refreshing, but I do think that next time I'll make sure I'll have some shredded coconut on hand for a more interestng texture.
I was also surprised when I realized that in order to fully chill the mixture, it needs to be refrigerated for at least 8 hours, so be warned! If you need to chill something mix it up at least 8 hours before you plan to use it. I let mine sit overnight, and it was still delicious.
Mint Chocolate Chip
I'm not a big fan of Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, but my husband is, so I decided that that should be the second flavor we tried.
I was working, and DH had invited his parents over for fresh corn from the farmers market, so I convinced him to go ahead and make the ice cream.
The recipe is 1 cup whole milk, well chilled
1 cup granulated sugar
2 cups heavy cream, will chilled
1 1/2 teaspoons pure peppermint extract
4 ounces bittersweet chocolate candy bar, chopped into small pieces
and a few drops of green or red food color if desired.
We opted of of the food coloring, and forgot to get bittersweet chocolate, so we used Flavorite real semi sweet chocolate chips instead.
My husband also didn't realize that the peppermint extract was overflowing off the spoon, so we're not sure how much of that he used.
He also added 6 mint chocolate chip oreos during the last few minutes of the mixing.
We tasted the ice cream before we mixed in the chocolate chips, and oreos, and it was so minty it would make your mouth pucker!
After the ice cream thickened up, he removed it from the bowl, and put it into the freezer, because leaving the ice cream in the bowl and putting it in the freezer can cause damage.
I was surprised at how good the ice cream was!
Either the mixins, or the time in the freezer, had given it a mellower flavor, and the pieces of green oreo filling looked pretty in the white ice cream.
I did't like the chocolate chips - they were like a big hard frozen chocolate chip to me, and I picked them out after I ate the first few. My father in law thought the chips were the best part though.
We'll definitely make this again, but if I have my way I'll smash the chips up a little bit more.
Ice Cream Recipes
Peanut Butter and Chocolate Ice Cream
I love peanut butter and chocolate - from Reeses Cups to peanut butter and chocolate milk shake, if it says peanut butter and chocolate I'll try it.So of course I was really happy when I ran into Ice Cream Addiction, on the My Sweet and Saucy Blog, and found the recipe for Chocolate-Peanut Butter Ice Cream.
Of course I had to make it following the recipe there, and I loved it.
It tasted a little bit more like peanut butter than my beloved Baskin Robbins peanut butter and chocolate ice cream does, and it didn't have the beloved chunks of peanut butter in the ice cream, but it was still yummy.
The ice cream actually tastes like a peanut butter and chocolate milk shake.
Mmm.
Delicous.
Vanilla Frozen Yogurt
Experiment #3
I have to admit that I was a little bit disappointed with this recipe.
I was expected frozen yogurt that tasted like the frozen yogurt from TCBY's and I got frozen yogurt that tasted like yogurt. Since I'm not a big yogurt fan, that's not good for me.
The yogurt was still good, although it was tart, tangy, and not as sweet as I expected it to be.
My almost 2 year old niece loved it, and so did everyone else.
Here's the recipe, from the recipe booklet that came with the Cuisineart Frozen Yogurt, Ice Cream, and Sorbet machine.
1 1/4 cups whole milk
3/4 cups granulated sugar
2 1/2 cups plain fat free yogurt
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract.
Combine milk and sugar in a medium bowl using a whisk or hand mixer on low speed, until sugar is dissolved.
Stir in yogurt, heavy cream, and vanilla.
Then turn on the machine, and pour the mixture into the bowl and let it mix until thick.
It took about 20 minutes to thicken.
