I love summer.I also love ice pops! Isn't it fun how the two go together? As a kid I liked them laced with sugar. What child doesn't? But I really can't bring myself to eat that kind anymore. The solution is NOT to abstain from eating these ice treats. The solution is to make them a little healthier!

But that's not all this lens is about. Sure, I'll give recipes and suggestions for making healthier ice pops. However, it is also meant to be a celebration in honor of one of the best hot weather creations on the planet - the humble Popsicle.

Basic Ice Pops Recipe

There really isn't a right or wrong way to make ice pops. The basic method is to pour some sort of sweet liquid into ice pop molds and let them set. You can use anything - juice, smoothies, ice cream, even pudding. You can really just use your imagination. But to get you started, I thought I'd share with you a basic recipe.

2 cups juice of choice
Ice pop molds

Instructions

Pour juice into ice pop molds to about 3/4 of the way full. Add the top portion of the mold and freeze. Read on in the lens to get some suggestions and variations.

I was just thinking of whipping up a batch or two of smoothies and pouring them into ice pop molds. Here are my favorite combinations.

Strawberry banana smoothie. Blend together frozen strawberries, half a banana, a pinch of honey, and a little soy milk. If I want more protein, I'll add a scoop of whey protein powder.
Berry smoothie. I keep assorted frozen berry mixes in the freezer. I like to blend this mix together with a banana and some almond milk. I also add half a scoop of whey protein powder.
