An American Icon - Jack Lalanne

We Have Lost an American Icon - Jack Lalanne

I have difficulty thinking of the Icon - Jack Lalanne in past tense, as he has been such an inspiration to my life.

He has been called: A trailblazer and champion for fitness. He is also called the Father or Godfather of Fitness. I have always called him
a role model and my Hero.

He passed away on Sunday January 23rd at the age of 96.

He is known as one of the founders of the modern fitness movement, as well as one of my real heroes and role models.

I needed to give him a tribute.

I needed the closure.

To me Jack Lalanne was pure inspiration. Yes this is a Tribute to him, but it is so much more. He is now at rest, but he was such a fine example that we must energize ourselves and make sure that all his hard work was not for nothing.

It makes me feel very sad that he is no longer with us, but, I am happy at the same time. I am happy at what he did for us and the real legacy that he left behind for us to follow.

One thing I know for sure: we are all better off because Jack LaLanne was here and promoted exercise and healthy eating.

I hope you read and enjoy this material

You will learn more about how he impacted me, and even more reasons why I am into Wellness today.

When you read further, you will learn why I couldn't go to sleep when I got home from my Senior Ball, and what I had to do to be able to sleep.

I do hope you enjoy this Tribute to this American Icon, Jack Lalanne.

Great Health to you,

Carmel

Four Reasons to Benefit from Jack Lalanne's Legacy Of Fitness

Jack Lalanne- Icon- Swimming feat at 61 yrs

Jack Lalanne taught us so many things during his dedicated life. I think all of us Baby Boomers are very familiar with him, as we grew up learning from him.

The first thing he taught us is that if you want something you must work for it. He worked and he worked hard. He would get up at 5 am and workout for two hours every day. Did he do it because he loved it? No, he stated that he hated it.--from WebMD

Second. He showed us that we could use whatever we had. On his Television show he used chairs, broom handles, anything handy. Most of what he demonstrated were just pure calisthenics They were sit-ups, push-ups, toe touches, leg lifts. They only involved what we had, our body.

The third thing was he taught us to eat correctly. I remember his lecture on Sugarholics. That was what he has been. He asked us to give up pies, cookies, cakes, ice cream and all kinds of sugared products to eat a clean healthy diet. He said if we would do that we would thank.him later. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!

The Fourth thing he taught us is: start right now. We can't begin any younger, so start now-no matter what our age. It is never too late to begin to take proper care of ourselves.

Jack Lalanne was an American Icon: The Father of Fitness

Jack Lalanne -Fingertip Push-ups

He was the father of fitness. I remember his TV show when I was a very young girl living at home with my parents. When I was at home I would workout with him; I in my living room and he was on TV.

The famous episodes you can now find on You Tube and other places, I watched for the first time from my parents' living room.

No, I didn't know him personally, but he had a huge impact on me. Because of his influence, I developed an exercise routine that I did every night before going to sleep. The night I came home from my Senior Ball and tried to go to sleep, I should really say - in the wee hours of the morning, I couldn't until I got up and did my exercises. It was that deeply ingrained in me.

One of my favorite statements of his was:

"Exercise is King, Nutrition is Queen, put them together and you have a Kingdom."

Yes, that man was a role model and a hero of mine-even though he didn't know who I was.

Why was Jack Lalanne such an effective Fitness Icon?

He was charismatic

Jack Lalanne -Fitness Model

He was charismatic.

He drew people in and made us want to do what he spoke about. He called those at home working out with him his students. He called upon us - boys and girls to go get our moms to workout with him, and we did.

Today not too many people will extend the effort and work with every fiber of their entire body trying to help you. Most celebrities are not good examples, and many are terrible ones. He was a great one, and encouraged us to have a healthier, happier and more enjoyable life.

When Jack Lalanne was young he ate junk and sugar and was in horrible shape. He went to a Wellness or Nutritional speaking engagement to listen to Nutritionist Wellness speaker Paul Brag, and later went back stage and spoke to the Wellness speaker himself. The nutritionist told him he was a walking garbage can.

Jack was smart enough to pay attention, learn and change his entire life. He became a famous model for fitness and then put in his own fitness gym and TV show. I know he impacted millions including me..

Thank You Squidoo for the Purple Star

And thank you too Jack for giving us such a fine model to follow

If you will notice, there's a little purple star in the upper right corner of this page, by my name and picture.

Why is that? Squidoo likes to encourage us and gives acknowledgment for a job well done. So, they bestow a Purple Star to a few of the lenses they consider to be good.

I am the very happy recipient of a Purple Star after completing this material.

Thank you Squidoo. I feel very honored.

pushups, pullups, or any other bodyweight exercise was not invented by jack. it existed long before he was born. alot of fighters such as gladitors and knights used to exercise to get strong. jack is just a guy who used to follow an old lifestyle so that doesn't make him a hero or an icon.

I, too, grew up with Jack LaLanne. I remember my mother and I exercising along with him on his TV show. Definitely the father of healthy eating and living. Great lens!

I didn't know that jumping jacks were named after Jack LaLanne!

I was just talking to a friend of mine yesterday, and she told me Jack LaLanne inspired her to be active and eat healthy, which led to her current profession as a yoga teacher.

    Wonderful lens!

He is definitely one of my heroes. You have written a wonderful tribute to him.

I too remember Jack LaLanne being the first person to use the word "sugarholic". I also remember he was the first person I saw who "walked the walk" as well as "talk the talk". It is a rare combination. At 12yrs old I noticed him on TV and said to myself: "I'm going to keep up with him and watch him 'get old'. See if all that diet and exercise makes a difference." Anyone with eyes can see that he was the healthiest, happiest, and handsomest man at 95yrs being interviewed on the Morning Shows. Even though he lived in CA - he did not spend all his money on doctors on Rodeo Drive. WAY TO GO, JACK!

I remember Jack from when I was a child, too, and have been thrilled to get to know him a little bit again over the last couple of years. I was very sad when I heard he was gone. I think calling Jack a hero isn't overstating at all how important his influence was on the fitness movement over the decades. He will be missed.
