Just how much is your commute costing your wallet and Mother Earth. Try committing to one car-free commute day a week and help organize a car pooling system for your workplace.
  • GO SOLAR. There are many new companies that provide great solar products that will reduce your carbon footprint and energy costs. But it is also very easy to build your own solar power system.

  • SEAL OFF WINDOWS AND DOORS. Using weather-stripping to seal drafts around windows and doors will cut your heating and cooling expenses and reduce the burning of fossil fuels. It also protects against zombies.
  • USE THE PUBLIC LIBRARY. There's no need to buy so many books, especially if they're published overseas and sold at a big box store. Any library in your city usually, either has the book you want or can get it for you from a neighboring library.
  • BECOME A LOCAVORE. When you choose out of season organic food that's from journeyed overseas instead of locally grown anything, the pollution caused by the container ships outweighs any benefit you're going to get. Locavores say eating what's available locally is healthier anyway. Cooking dinner? Make a few meals at the same time and stash them in the fridge.
  • PUSH FOR CHANGE, BIG AND SMALL. Just one idea can get you started and then get your friends and locals involved.

    Great information... Have you heard of the work being done in Second Life to help our planet? You would probably be very interested in what they are trying to do globally with our watershed. You might want to check it out as you seem to be very in tune with ecology and protecting our planet.

    These are wonderful ideas, and this is an important concept!

    But be CAREFUL not to copy / paste content from other sites. It's usually copyrighted, and it's not right to take someone else's work without credit. Even if you're taking just part of their article, that's still plagiarism.

    Instead, you could link to their article, or write an article in your own words, then credit a source for where you got some of your tips. (I noticed because I'm pretty sure you don't live in Santa Clara, California. ;) )

    Nitpicking aside, it's an important lens, and I know it's in a good cause!
