Stumped for Gift Ideas?
It's here again: the gift challenge. You're thinking, "What can I come up with THIS time for a unique gift idea??"
Birthdays, special events, anniversaries, it seems like it's always something!
Some of the toughest groups are juveniles, the over-10 (or "tween") and teenage market. Also a challenge can be the "under 10" family and friends, so read on for some fun and even educational, thoughts.... And BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE FREE AUDIO SAMPLINGS BELOW!!
It seems one of the most popular survey answers when asking for advice to this age group and their parents is an audio book, but the trick is finding titles that parents are comfortable with as well as a cool, new way for kids to use their MP3 player, computer or iPod. Better yet, the preference is a series of audio books, which encourages the recipient to pursue the next installment, thus broadening their literary base.
The key to successful gift giving for the "around 10" crowd is to find audio book titles familiar to most adults, so they know they can be comfortable with giving them and, because it's a download, they will seem "cool" to the kids.
Check out any "at-home-mom" or "working-parents" forum and you'll see the incredibly popular topic: "Need a great gift for a tween." The same is the case with most parents' blogs and any website related to parenting and teens. By far, the first choice is downloadable audio "classics."
Check out all of our kids' audio book offerings!! How about giving them something they can listen to why they sit at the beach or pool??
But WAIT, there's more! the gift GIVER deserves some consideration too, so follow me to some suggestions on the hottest audio offerings of the season, even some especially for the ladies...
And PLEASE, if you like this lens Add to Onlywire!

The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis

Long considered a significant philosophical exercise disguised as a children's story, the ensuing works explore the effects and possibilities experienced through one's beliefs.
This is the first story in the Chronicles of Narnia series. The rest of the series can be found here:

Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum
While most of us have grown up thinking we know the Wizard of Oz, unless one has read the original books (there are 14 in the whole series!), they haven't even begun to scratch the surface. Filled with enchanting landscapes and imaginative characters, they take you far beyond Dorothy's initial visit to Oz. Even the original text of this first of the series includes quite a bit that Hollywood left out.
Five other Oz books are also available:
Road to Oz, The
Marvelous Land of Oz
Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz
Ozma of Oz

Children's Favorites (under 10s)
Amelia Bedelia By Peggy ParishAmelia Bedelia is the world's most literal-minded housekeeper, who causes quite a ruckus whenever she's given a chance.
This audio book is a collection of five stories. In Amelia Bedelia we get to know this unusual housekeeper's absurd way of thinking. In Amelia Bedelia and the Surprise Shower, she arrives with a garden hose and the party is turned into an uproarious mess. In Play Ball, Amelia Bedelia's literal-mindedness adds a new dimension to the game of baseball. Thank You, Amelia Bedelia features Amelia Bedelia "pairing" the vegetables and separating the eggs. In Come Back, Amelia Bedelia, Amelia Bedelia tries her hand at a variety of new jobs after Mrs. Rogers fires her for her muddles.
[Most of the puns and double-entrendres in this clever series make these stories as entertaining for adults as children.]
Bear Called Paddington By Michael Bond
"A bear? On Paddington Station?" Mrs. Brown looked at her husband in amazement. "Don't be silly, Henry. There can't be!" But, indeed, there was.
Paddington Bear had traveled all the way from Darkest Peru when the Brown family first met him on Paddington Station. Since then their lives have never been quite the same... for ordinary things become quite extraordinary when a bear called Paddington is involved.
Berenstain Bears By Stan & Jan Berenstain
One day, Stan and Jan Berenstain were captured by a family of bears.
It was a family of three -- an overenthusiastic Papa whose high opinion of himself was exceeded only by his ability to do silly things (often placing himself in jeopardy from bees, skunks, low-hanging branches, whales, irate farmers, etc.), a wise, steady Mama with a firm grip on reality, and a bright enterprising little boy cub.
For more than forty years, the Berenstains' delightfully enchanting stories of this trio have charmed children, and now they can enjoy them listening to the authors read the best of their hilarious tales.
House At Pooh Corner By A. A. Milne

This latest addition to the Pooh Classics, the 10 unabridged stories in The House at Pooh Corner is a must. On stage and on recordings, Peter Dennis, with the blessings of the Milne estate, has made Milne's world something of a life's work... his intelligent and whimsical readings, meant for adults and children alike, are captivating.
Horrid Henry By Francesca Simon
